Unhappy Creak sound in rear

I have an 05 TSX that has 4500 miles on it now. It has just developed a creaking sound when I pull into a driveway or onto a street that has an approach that is inclined like a ramp. It seems to do it due to the body flexing and can only be heard coming from the back seat/rear window area. Has anyone else noticed a creak sound like this?

I found something about someone having a weld behind the rear seat massaged? What weld are they talking about and can it be easily fixed without going to the dealer 200 miles away?

aahh...

the spot weld residue from the rear cross member...

yup, i have that too. a solution i read about was to split the 2 pieces of metal, held together with the spot welds, thereby increasing the space between them and not allowing the spot weld residue to touch...

haven't done it yet, nor do i know how difficult the job may be. but, like you, i'd prefer to fix this annoyance myself...

yup, i had tat problem last month. and it took Acura 2 attempts to get it fixed. After the first "fix", the sound came back a week later but much worse. and they told me they tightend everything up the 2nd time around...but now i got steering column rattles

Do you know what they did to tighten it up? Did they put more spot welds in it?

I have the same noise like you have...it is in the trunk upper left corner of the metal frame... I sprayed WD40 in that crack and voila...the noise is gone.... Pass the word to every one...dont need to weld it...just have to spray the WD40 and the creak is gone....

i lived with that noise too and finally took it to the dealer and they took about couple hours to fix it. no more creaking noise. they say they popped few welds.

I had that same noise from rear too... it happened exactly like you described. I took it to my dealership and they fixed it on very 1st attempt... I was told they lubed something inside the trunk... I didn't ask for the exact detials though, but at least it seems an easy enough fix for them.

I sprayed WD-40 on the spot welds on the rear cross member and it took care of the creak. I guess that was easy enough!

all these talks about spraying wd40... doesn't that risk rusting? I think I've heard from somewhere that wd40 could cause rust... or increase the chance of that?

wouldn't regular machine lubing oil be safer?

I also hear a creak when backing out of my driveway or going over like a speed bump at an angle. seems to be the back left area of the rear.

excellent thread...

did you have to open up the trunk lining to do this, or, can this job be done with, at most, pulling down the rear seats?

so...

i just sprayed some wd-40 onto the rear cross-members. the difference is like night and day.

i still have some creaking on the drivers side, but it's very minimal. i'll just have to lash more wd-40 onto that side later.

excellent info...

they filled in the loose spot welds and tightened everything up including the rear seats, trunk and brace. basically, they tore up my rear i guess? heh. no problems since and of course, covered under warranty (they better be!)

I had the rear seats down just because I was looking for where the creak was coming from, but wouldn't have had to have the seats down to WD-40 it.

WD-40 won't increase your chances for rust, it actually helps prevent rust!

The pictures look just like my 05 and I sprayed the WD-40 in the spots that are shown in the picture.

Guess I felt for one of those urban myths then... did the "Myth Buster" (a Discovery channel show) disprove that myth in any episode by any chance?
