Cracking/Popping seat
Cracking/Popping seat
Ever since I got my 06 tsx 38xxx miles, there has been this very annoying popping sound. Every time you turn the car it pops..keep in mind I don't drive it like I stole it..I drive reserved. I tried lubing the bolts and every screw in the assembly..the sound was very mutted, but it's back. Are there any words of wisdom, or should I take it to acura? Thanks in advance
I've had nothing but problems with the seats in my 06 tsx. I didn't even have the tsb issue with a squeeking driver's seat, I mostly had (and still have) issues with the seats shifting forward and back (loose) and making rattling or squeaking noises. I've had the passenger's seat tracks and bottom replaced three times. And I've had the driver's seat replaced twice.
Bottom line, the seats often just become loose over time. My first issue was the same as yours: loud pop coming from passenger seat. They replaced the seat rails for me and that fixed the issue, but within a few months, that seat started to come loose and rattle. So if you're still under warranty..keep pressing them to come up with a fix for you before you're out of warranty.
I had techs at dealeships say that some looseness in the seat is normal to allow for the airbag sensors to work properly. This is total BS. The seat should not shift forward or backwards a few inches. My driver's seat still rocks a half an inch when I stop or start, but I've learned to live with it.
Moral of the story: sort it out with the dealership until you're happy. Don't let them tell you noises or looseness in the seat is within spec.

Just curious, but you have a lot of these types of messages. Don't get me wrong, we're all happy that you have lots of "problem free miles" on your TSX, but the original poster asked for guidance in how to handle this issue. How does this help him/her at all?
I have the same rattle noise coming from my passenger seat. It comes and goes but sounds like a bar hitting something in the seat. I can't figure it out but doesn't bother me that much, I have the music up most of the time to notice it.
Davis Acura where I bought the car wanted to charge me $100 even when it was under warranty in case they couldn't find the issue. I'm just living with it because a dealer didn't want to go out of their way to help me. I hope you can get it sorted. Let us know what they find out so it can help others.

Quite frankly, when I write about a problem on here that I might be having, the last thing that I want to read is "Don't know, but mine doesn't do this." Congratulations, you're not suffering from the same problem I am! Thanks for rubbing it in my face! If you don't have anything constructive to add to a "Problems/Fixes" thread, don't stick your nose in it. (I realize that by writing this message, I'm also not helping the OP - but quite honestly, I'm sick of this gal. She's a borderline troll around here with her comments and I wish she'd just go away - or post something constructive once in a while other than continuing to mention that she pays $3.00 for an oil change, tire rotation, etc because she probably sleeps with the service manager).
The OP wasn't accusing of this being a wide spread TSX problem, simply wanted some help.

Ok relax everyone..my tsx is flawless aside from the popping noise..just clearing everything up..nj2 is a very respected member here..I'd rather have some say "hey I'd help you if I could!", rather than a thread that is mute..I'm not siding with anyone, but philie just making assumptions like oh she gets everything done for 3 bucks, because she sleeps with the service manager is just taking it too far..way to far! But thanks to everyone for the feedback and I'll keep you guys posted on what the dealer does and fixes!

The service managers will often do anything they can to shut you up and not create more work for themselves, even though it's their job to fix these issues for customers. You'll get it resolved one way or another. If you do have a bad experience at your dealership, you'll probably get a call from acura to do a phone survey followup. Voice your disappointment with your service and I guarantee the dealership will be calling you the next day to make it right.
I had the drivers seat TSB done and not had any problems. On my wife's Civic I spend months trying to chase down a noise coming from the passenger seat area. Turned out to be the rear view mirror was loose. The sound was reflecting off the door to the drivers position and it seemed like it was coming from the seat. On my TSX I spent a few weeks diagnosing a clicking sound when I turned the car at low speeds in the parking lot. I thought it was a strut, even priced out the replacement. Turned out my tire gauge in the glove box was hitting a flashlight everytime I parked the car.. Doh! Boy did I feel dumb.
You may want to put a torque wrench on the seat bolts. They are torqued to 25 ft-lbs (doesn't seem like much huh?).

I'll defiantly check the mirror, but i can feel the vibrations on the seat when I turn. Keep in mind I don't corner fast at all. When I take the car to the dealer I will ask about the TSB, I actually loosened a couple of screws and shot some wd-40 around the screws threads, which actually muted he sound for about a week. But I will definitely let you know what they say. And 25 ft-lbs seems alittle to low for a seat..also the only thing in my glove box is the leather manual carrier supplied with the vehicle and nothing in the center console..so it's got to be the seat.. Thanks!
Good luck. btw I got that torque value from the service manual. Yes it does seem low, but proper torque is often less than most people think is right. When I tighten lug nuts with a torque wrench I'm always tempted to put a little extra on it. I can't stand tire dealers that torque the crap out of the lug nuts.
I found the solution.. You have to move the seat all the way back and unbolt the seat..once the bolts are out you will see the front left bracket where the seat sits is scratched. This is metal to metal contact.. Acura said to put a piece of carpet over the contact areas, I put 3m double sided tape over it. I put the seat back in the slots, bolted it down and went for a quick test spin.. It worked!! Time to complete is less than 30 min
