Clutch whine?
Clutch whine?
Hey everybody, sorry seems like i've been doing nothing but asking questions these past 2 weeks! I have a MT 2004 TSX, and i noticed recently that when i'm pulling away in first gear the clutch makes a whining sound when its half engaged. It sounds like what a poorly lubricated ball bearing would sound like when the steel balls are rubbing up against the wall (And sort of like a dying man moaning but no change in pitch... if that makes any sense at all >_>). And one last example... like a much deeper version of a pulley squeak. I've done some research and i think its the throwout bearing but is it anything i should be concerned with? It only happens once in a while and mostly when i'm on a slope by the way.
Have you noticed if it happens more frequently when you're turning the wheel while letting the clutch out? I have the same issue occasionally and I suspect the throwout bearing also.
Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but if it is the throwout bearing it's not doing any damage and can be replaced when the clutch goes out.

If a throwout bearing was to lock up, it can destroy the pressure plate in the clutch and render it inoperable. A throwout bearing noise should be noticed regardless of steering wheel position. By the op description I would guess the clutch itself, knowing that there is more slipping/loading in the clutch when leaving from a stop and climbing a hill.

I've been getting the SAME NOISE for about a year.
My mechanic said he didn't notice anything when I asked. Here are some details for comparison:
-Happens both when going straight AND when turning
-With the exact right clutch/gas balance, I can avoid the whine
-It's gotten slightly worse (or more frequent)
-My clutch was replaced aprox. 2 years/20k miles ago
Any other thoughts or guesses?

I have the same problem but the noise is changing. Not when I'm taking turns, it deepens on the weather and how fast I push or release the clutch (more likely when I'm releasing in first and second gear because that is a slower release). It really feels and sounds like a lack of lubricant. The last time I took my car to the Acura dealership I ask them to check it out. They told me they are fixed it but than couple of days later the noise came back. The sound is really annoying!!
Sorry if I wrote something incorrect but english is my second language

I use to get the same noise from time to time. Dealer here admitted they had several cars come in with the same problem, but couldn't do anything to mine until they heard it for themselves, which they never did. The Acura tech that performed by clutch /flywhell/LSD instal said that his dealership had a bunch of TSXs come in with the "whine". However, since I did the Exedy swap I have not had the noise come back.
