HID bulbs : which brand?

Hi,

After 6 years and 100K miles of reliable service, I just noticed that my driver side low beam HID bulb has turned pink, which is apparently a sign of imminent failure. So I'm planning to replace both bulbs.

Did anyone here replace their HID bulbs? What brand did you pick? Is there a significant difference betwen 4300K, 5000K and 6000K colors or are they all more or less white?

Do all bulbs last the same, or are there better, longer lasting brands?

I replaced my OEM bulbs at 120K miles with Kaixen 5000K. Purchased from Excelerate for $100/pair. Definitely more of a blue hue then bright white like OEM 4300K. Typical life span of a Xenon bulb is ~3000hrs. Recommended to replace both bulbs at the same time.

I went with a pair of Philips D2S 85122 for $106 with shipping (not the + P/N which I read is more yellowish) from oembulbs.com. We'll see. Only problem is they take 3 weeks to ship. Oh well, it's summer and I should not need my headlights very often in the next 3 weeks and the D/S still works though dimmer and pink

Silly me just believed an answer I read on a web site that this can be done in a few minutes. It looks totally wrong. Sounds like I need to remove bumper and headlight assembly... Any advice of link to a good step by step instructions, given the fact I'm not a experienced mechanic...

You don't need to remove the bumper to replace the HID bulbs. You would need a torx security tool, which can be found in most tool stores such as Sears. Taking my time, it took me 30mins to do. There is a DIY here...run a search.
