Clutch GONE at 38k Miles??

I've seen some sporadic posting of clutches going out EARLY on the 6MT TSX. Mine is '04 and i just had to take it in because the clutch is failing at only 38K miles.

This is a normal daily driver....no street racing/aggressive clutch dropping here. Obviously, if i were living in San Fran or hilly area i could understand.

What kills me is that my lease is up in 45 days and now they want me to drop $1,500 on a new clutch.

Any ideas?

That is not right. I now have 59xxx miles on my clutch and I learned to drive manual with this car. Acura integrity/reliabilty is falling quickly. I have been a Honda family member since 1988 - may have to rethink my next purchase.

It is almost impossible unless there is a major defect with the clutch (which can always happen, no matter what te company, BTW) but a clutch worn so early almost always points towards misuse.

I'm pretty rough on my clutch, and I have 227,000km on it and no sign of it going down.

I wouldn't blame Honda for this issue.

I've driven manual my entire life and never had a clutch go out before 80k+ miles.

I also feel this is due to a defect, but how would i prove that? Naturally, they think it's my driving but i have NEVER ridden the clutch.

Even 80k is very inferior to what a clutch should normally do.

Is the dealer trying to tell you it's not under warranty?
Not much you can do though.. except try to fight it.

How do i fight it? Of course dealer says this is a 'wear and tear' item....their word vs. mine about how it was driven.

Good Luck. The clutch went on my 04 at 56,000 (mostly highway) miles. I put 125,000 miles on my dodge daytona without wearing out the clutch. I argued that it was extremely early for a clutch to wear out and they gave me the "normal wear item" arguement. One of the techs accused me of smoking my tires all the time to wear the clutch out early.

at 30K+ miles isn't it still covered under warranty?

I've driven with people that drive stick all their life and STILL don't know how to drive properly.

I'm at 25k miles on my 6MT and the car is still going strong, so I guess if something happens in 10k more miles to my car then I should stop racing =P
