Greetings from an old user... 2004 AT with 175,000 miles and going strong.

For the past few months I am hearing a chirping sound when I start from a stop. If this a manual and I had a lead foot you would claim I am deliberately chirping the tires... but it is doing this on it's own. Not every time, but quite a bit. Dealer thought it may be brakes and replaced the back ones (they needed it anyway)... but chirp still there. Thought it might be worn tires and replaced those (needed it anyway) but chirp still there. Thought it might be low tranny fluid but that checks out also.

Any ideas from the TSX hoi polloi?

Hrmm, I have a distinct chirp when starting from a stop, and sometimes on the 1-2 shift. I have a 2004 6MT though. One suggestion that made a lot of sense (and would in your case too, I think) is that the mainshaft splines are lacking adequate lubrication. It's apparently a big job to fix (think: clutch/tranny opened). Can you pinpoint the area of the car that it's coming from?

To me it sounds like the front wheels... I had a Saab 9000 AT that gave the same chirp just before the tranny died, so I am not ignoring this sound.

Is there a tranny fluid additive that might stop the chirp? (as it did in my Saab, before it died anyway).
