check engine light and vsa (!)
everytime i punch gas on my car and the vtec kicks in, after i let off the gas, the check engine light, VSA (!) comes on, and the cars idles funny. this all started when i got my oil changed at walmart and the put in 10w30 instead of 5w30. then i took it to autozone and the read the lil check engine tester on it and it said, "Rocker arm acuator stuck". do you think the oil change had anything to do with it. the cars is a 2004 auto acura tsx, 88,000 miles.

I don't think the check VSA warning has anything to do with oil.
10W30 is fine as long as you don't live in a super-cold area(Like Canada)
Take it to the dealer and have them inspect your suspension.

VSA light will often come on with the Check Engine Light because the PCM shuts down communication when it sets a CEL. 10W-30 should not cause Vtec failure. First check the oil level, if it's low it can cause Vtec solenoid to starve for oil. If oil level is OK, you'll need to have dealer do full diagnostics with the HDS.

Check your oil level. I just saw another AUDM Accord Euro running with 1/4 above the minimum hole have the same VSA and check engine light when hitting 6000rpm. Topped up to the maximum dot, cleared the code and vtec worked properly with no more new lights popping up.

shifting gears the check engine and vsa lights came on flashing and then the mottor shut down completely. tried to restart the car and nothing, like it was dead. battery working perfectly. any ideas? took it to the dealer and they said nothing wrong. the computer has no codes but then i took it back and it happened again. PLEASE HELP!!!!

Whatever you do, don't tell them that Walmart put in 10w30, because that can void your warranty (especially if its a failed component that requires oil... like vtec solenoids, etc...).

I'm using Mobile1 5W-30 in winter, and Motul 10W-30 in summer. I don't think it will cause any problem for either the CEL or VSA. Check if those Wal-Mart mechanic fxxk up ya car, or they put something else in ya car...

reviving this thread. 2004 TSX manual trans. 42k.
my VSA light, exclamation point light, and engine light come on no matter what speed, and the car will not accelerate. I have to pull over (which is fun when it happens at 80MPH) and restart the car. I've taken it to acura before, but they found nothing. It just happened again, but the engine light is still on, so I'm leaving for the stealership now.

okay, so i called them and they are waiting for a part to be overnighted. the guy on the phone said something about replacing the butterfly value. once i pick up my ride i'll try to get more details off the diag sheet.

i don't know what these codes mean. maybe someone with diag code experience can translate, but the dealership installed a new throttle body.
"Corrected by 123503: DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES - Use PGM tester for confirmation of DTS as described in a service bulletin. Corrected by 121165: (03001) (00 throttle body - replace.)"
"Installed 164-RBB-J02: Throttle Body."
hope this info helps anyone that sees this issue.

I had a scare last weekend when I was driving on the highway and noticed that my VSA light was on. I couldn't remember what the light was for at the time, so I was a bit scared since it's bright orange with an exclamation point in it...lol. I got home and checked the manual, found out it was VSA, and just to make sure I didn't accidentally hit the VSA button with my knee when I got in the car, I pressed the button...and off the light went. PHEW. I figured I must've bumped it with my knee when I got in the car from running an errand. I'll take that over a $720 part anytime.

Did the OP ever find out the problem? I had that on my previous accord and it turned out that my VTEC solenoid wasn't functioning properly.
Off Topic:
Anyone here have the helms manual for the 04-08 TSX? More specifically, anyone have a list of the CEL codes? I'm assuming that reading the blinking CEL light is similar to past methods.

Acura tl 2007 - vsa light problem
I'm also having the VSA light and engine light come on and the dealer can't find anything wrong. I've taken it in twice now. They just reset the electrical codes and tell me to bring it back if it happens again. Sigh.
When it happens the car loses power, not completely, but I can't go more than a few miles/hour and have to pull over and turn off the engine. When I turn it back on again the VSA light turns off, but the engine light is still on and it seems to drive ok again.
My mileage today when it happened said I was getting 11mpg, which I don't think is correct.
It seems like this happens when I drive in heavy slow moving traffic for an extended period of time, like my hour long commute.
Any ideas?

Issue resolved...(or is it?)
I dropped off my car for the third time at the dealer's for the same problem. VSA light comes on, check engine light comes on and I can't go faster than 20mph and the car is completely sluggish.
This time they called me back within a few hours and said they had found the problem. A bad gas pedal sensor they said, and supposedly they replaced it right away. I'm only on my second day of driving but am hopeful - so far no problems.

I have a 2004 TL and this keeps happening to me. I drive at various speeds and randomly my VSA and check engine light turn on and the car goes into idle mode. I can't accelerate (much anyways). From what I have been reading it looks like I need to replace the throttle position sensor? I can't seem to locate anywhere to buy this part alone (I'd have to buy the whole throttle body) I do know that I need the electronic control if that changes anything? Help from anybody would be great! Thanks guys!
