Check engine light this morning

This morning on my way to work I noticed that the CEL was on. My car only has 5k miles. I thought maybe it was the gas cap because when I filled up the tank 2 days ago, I didn't hear clicks when the gas attendent put the gas cap back on....

so I took the gas cap off and retightened it. I did it twice and then I started the car but the CEL is still on. If it is the loose gas cap problem, how soon does the CEL turn off?

Get it looked after at the dealership during your next maintenance.

Don't quote me on this, but I've heard it takes a day or two... depending on the amount of driving you do during that time.

Yea, you are probably right. I read in one of the threads that it takes up to 3 days or so. When I saw the CEL, my heart dropped. I know it isn't the end of the world but I'm paranoid since my car is so new. I made an appointment to have my oil changed tomorrow so I'll bring it up then. We'll see.

yep. the engine has to "cycle".. which means starting it up when it is completely cooled off. IT has to do that a few times with no faults before the cel will turn off. Id wait about a week. And yell at that damn gas pumper for f'ing it up. Id never allow some cracked out guy go near my car. let alone make an attempt at aiming the pump into the fuel filler....

*edit*- I see your in NJ. you have no choice there.. which sucks. But yeah. It probably didnt turn on til the next day after he filled your tank.

Well i guess it was the gas cap. I went to Park Ave Acura this morning to get an oil change, and I mentioned the CEL. The fault code was P0442 (small leak). They reset it and all is well. Damn gas attendents. hehe
