Check engine light on at 16000 miles

Ok, so I've noticed a HUGE drop in gas mileage over the last couple of fill ups. My car has never gotten less than 28 mpg average between fill-ups yet all of the sudden I was only getting 19-20 mpg! Then yesterday the check engine light comes on in Savannah (about 80 miles from home). Well, I needed gas anyway, so I filled her up and tightened the cap really tight and then drove home. THe trip is all highway on I95. When I got to my exit I checked the gas mileage and it was 19 mpg!!! I usually get over 30 mpg on nothing but highway driving. Anyway, the light is still on and I'm guessing that a 33% drop in gas mileage means there has to be something actually wrong and not a loose gas cap. I'm going to call the local Honda dealer (no Acura dealer in town) and see if they can figure out what is wrong. Any ideas?

**Duh!! Obviously posted in wrong forum, sorry!!**

only advise is call acuracare and have them tow you to acura dealer, cause you really should not be driving your car anymore under this circumstances

If I have to guess, I would say it's the primary O2 sensor.

Usually a drop in gas mileage is an indicator of some kind of problem. I'd check your oil levels and spark plugs, they usually give a good indication if your motor is running too rich or lean due to sensor problems. Other than that just get it to the dealer and have them diagnose that code. I'd be surprised if it wasn't an 02 sensor or map sensor failure that's causing the mixture to be all out of whack.

...Or dumbass put in shitty gas that fouled the plugs upon misfire, causing a detonation that signalled the CEL. I'd still stick on the primary O2 sensor.

^^^Gee, thanks for the vote of confidence there! I usually get gas (always premium) at the same places and have never had any problems before so I doubt that is it. I also have not noticed any kind of detonation or knocking. In fact, besides the light and the mileage, the car seems to run just fine.

Well, I just got back from the dealer in my brand-spanking new '05 loaner TSX. It turns out that the injectors where the culprit for the light and they will have to be ordered. I've never heard of injectors going bad but apparently they do. I don't really care though, that's the beauty of buying a new car! Acura had to pick up the $350 towing bill, rent me a car for however long it takes, and pay for all new injectors (which I'm sure aren't very cheap)!

It's actually the other way around. The injector is listed $125 each. It takes under 30 mins R&R on the TSX.
