Exclamation Not Under Warranty!!! Is This Possible??

Hello TSXers,

I was due for an oil change at Acura of Milford (Connecticut) and i asked them to check the brakes. I get a call from the dealer and they say i need new back brakes and new front rotors and pads. The dealer said that it would cost around $600!!!! I thought this was covered under warranty. Shouldn't it be covered under warranty! The car is a 2004 with 35,000 miles and it is a Lease...What should i do, i don't have the money to fix them!!

And you're probably much better off going w/ some Brembo blank rotors and some Hawk HPS pads...

They are amazing and probably cheaper than stock all-said-and-done. Especially if you can DIY install them (fairly easy or bring a friend).

I'd get a second opinion.

Or you could do it all yourself for what $200-300 in parts. I doubt you already need rotors, get them machined somewhere.

They should just be able to just resurface the rotors, unless their warped.

Some people have had them replace by the dealer under warranty, but that was because they only had 12K miles or less. 35K is gonna be a stretch. Personally, I think its bullshit we get charged at all for these rotors considering how often people have had them warp.

If your going to pay for new rotors, I would NOT go with OEM's again. Moda_Way installed some nice aftermarkets that werent slotted or cross drilled. Do a search...

Just because you're leasing doesn't mean you don't have to maintain the car.

There's nothing unusual for a car to need its brakes replaced at 35K miles.

Doesn't anybody do any basic car maintenance themsleves anymore? A rotor that is bad enough to need replacing should be obvious to spot just by a casual glance through the wheels.

I agree

35K miles is waay to many for the dealer to cosider doing it under warranty. You can get a second opinion from another dealer, or go out and get some of the aftermarket pads and rotors mentioned above. My

Thumbs up

I returned my car to the deal with like 57 miles on it, they resurfaced the rotors free of charge. At like 22k the brakes acted up agin, the deal told me it wasnt covered but would do it since I had a previous history of the brakes messing up.

Someplace on Honda-Tech's vendor list has them for slightly more than half that price (listed for RSX-S).

Import Replacement Parts, IIRC.

If the rotor wrap, it is fair to get resurface by warranty but for sure not for worn out rotor!

Your service advisors job is to sell. That means he/she will sell you unnecessary items before they are due. I would get a second opinion or roll out the floor jack and take a look for yourself.

No, all RSX rotors are 282mm and ours are 300mm.

EDIT: Just verified, they're actually showing up as 259.7mm. There is no way that could fit our 300mm. Still working on the 05 rotors since it comes with 17" wheels.

Just verified. RSX Type-S for 05 does use a 16" disc. Looks like it should work. Now I am cross-check part numbers.

You can probably just get the rotors resurfaced unless they are really bad. Provided that the rotors need it. The pads are easy to replace as a DYI type of thing, you can do all the work yourself for much less than the dealer is charging you.

But as a few others have suggested, get a second opinion somewhere else. 35k miles sounds resonable for brake pad replacement. For the rotors to be replaced sounds a bit off.

05 RSX Type-S (only) uses part 45251-S6M-A10
H: 73mm W: 311mm
04-05 TSX uses part 45241-SEA-J01
H: 69mm W: 311mm

They aren't the same after all.

For those who wondered in my brake writeup, the TSX rotor is spec'd at 8.436 kg or 18.6 lbs.

$600 is insane, you can do it yourself in about 1-2hrs. I would call around to various brake shops and get a quote, if you dont feel you can do this yourself you should be able to buy the parts and pay no more than $150 for labor. If you choose to do it yourself we all can walk you through it.
My girl has never worked on a car and I walked her through changing rotors and pads on my 2k accord, it took her 25min per wheel.

I have a TSX and an '03 Accord. I had the same problem within the first year, and went to the dealership and they changed my brakes and rotors. They didn't machine the rotors, i specifically told them to REPLACE the rotors and they did so. ***POMPANO HONDA***
