A/C Compressor cracked?

I have a 2004 TSX with 60,000 miles. Yesterday I was driving and noticed the air from the a/c got warm. I stopped to put gas and when I started the car and turned the a/c on I heard a noise and it looked like smoke came out from under the hood. I immediately turned off the car and popped the hood open to check it out.....and the a/c compressor had a huge crack across it. In reading several other threads it seems like a common problem in the 2004 TSX's. Does anyone know if acura would still replace the part or a least reimburse me?

yours cracked and mine the gear spindle snapped. sounds like the a/c compressor might be a weak spot on the 04s at least. I only have 40k on mine but still neither is a large amount of millage by any standard.

I'm at 65,000 and have been having AC problems for a while. Haven't gotten to take it in yet, but it is definitely more than just a coolant leak. Its a shame, since the AC works so well when it actually works.

a/c blown

04 6sp non navi, 46k miles, bought 1/04, driving down the road yesterday, turned on the a/c and pop. The pop noise was from passenger front side of car and I briefly smelled something burnt (thru vents actually) and had no cool air. I first thought I had a tire blowout due to the noise, so I pulled over to check front tires! Turned out just the a/c blown.

Quick search on this site shows this is somewhat common? Bad A/C on 2004 TSX.

Luckily, barely under warranty. Called dealer and taking it in tomorrow for repair(s) and I have a loaner waiting for me.

Quick question, do you think the new a/c parts are "corrected," or will the same exact parts be put back on? I am thinking about extending the warranty if it is not too late, any input on that?
thanks

Can't speak for the TSX, but in the case of the CR-V, the replacement compressors "look" the same as the one's they're replacing. But I've yet to see a CR-V with a replaced compressor return with the same problem. My assumption is they've been improved internally.

When mine was replaced, I got all new shiny parts. I wouldn't know if the parts were "corrected". So far so good. Currently at 70K miles. Failed & replaced at a little over 50K miles.
BTW, if I could go back in time and be offered an extended warranty, I would take it. The extended warranty would of been cheaper than covering the cost of the A/C system and labor.

Posting a follow-up for anyone else who might have the same problem. I was finally able to reproduce the problem I was having for the dealership. It was a bad relay in the fuse box under the hood. Pohanka Acura fixed it for me right there in the little car drop-off bay while I stood there. They did it free of charge since the car was still under warranty when I first brought it to them.
