A/C (Air Conditioner) Not Working, Already?

My wife has a 2004 TSX (got it back in Jan of 2005), and on a long trip back from Oklahoma to Texas (about 250 miles), the A/C all of a sudden quit working. It started blowing hot air.

I thought this was probably due to sitting in stop-and-go traffic (construction zone) for almost 45 minutes, but after turning the A/C off, and rolling the windows down for about 20 minutes, we tried it again, and it still didn't work. After about another 20 minutes of waiting, we tried it again, and it finally worked, the rest of the way home.

My wife told me last week, that it did the same thing, on a drive home from work (which is only about 30 minutes, and the temperature was only about 93F).

Today, we carpooled to work, and on my way to pick her up, after having the A/C running for about 23 minutes, it started doing the same thing, blowing hot air. We fumbled with the controls, but nothing we did got it working again. We finally gave up, and turned it off.

I'm having a hard time with this, as it's only about a year and a half old, only has 27,000 miles on it. I guess we will be taking it in this weekend to have it looked at, but from what I can see on this forum, it doesn't seem to be a common problem, although it's a little hard to search for A/C (which is why I spelled it out in the title, in case anyone else has problems).

Anyone else have this experience?

A few others have had the A/C fail them. I think sauceman was one. Have you tried searching on "air condition"?

Get it in at the dealership, and they will repair it under warranty, unless you took an mpact on your condenser.

Be prepared for a long wait for a new compressor.

Thanks for the input. Actually, I kind of hope it's the compressor, because that would at least hopefully mean that I don't have a leak somewhere, and hopefully, they won't have to take apart the entire dash.

It hasn't been in an accident, so I can't see that it would be a leak problem.

I hope the new compressor lasts longer than 27,000 miles!

I'll reply back once it's been fixed, with the work they did on it.

If the compressor took a rock & punctured it will not be covered under warranty - ask the ones who have experienced that mishap.

My air wasn't working right and then it started to dump water in the back seat. The line was clogged and was fixed but now i have a clicking problem when the air is on (heard outside the car).

Why would that be? Normal "wear and tear?" They better get prepared for a fight if that is the case. That's a poor design if a little rock can get up there and damage the compressor...

Is the compressor really that low on the car? I figured most of them are up on top of the engine compartment.

How was water getting to the back seat?

I believe Sauceman had that problem. Don't know how it happened though.

The compressor had a leak, then a few months later I took a rock in the condenser and punctured it. But I don't see how a rock could find it's way to the compressor, and even if it did, it's not the most fragile part on the car either.

But if you have a punctured condenser, you can wager your life they won't accept to pay for it. That would be covered by insurance though. I myself didn't go the claim route. I just paid for it and sucked it up.

Dealer had the car for 5 days, trying to reproduce the A/C problem. As luck would have it, A/C worked fine for 5 straight days. Had them fix the shfit gate squeaking sound though. They kind of scratched up the shift gate, but at least the sound is gone.

I guess we will have to wait until the A/C fails completely, before taking it in again. I'm sure luck would have it that it will happen 100 miles after the warranty is over.

BTW, anyone know what the standard warranty on the 2004 model was? I thought it was just the 3 year/36,000 mile standard, but couldn't remember...need to dig through some paper work.

The warranty is 4 years or 50,000 miles.
