bumper spacing/gap opening by headlamp

hey all,

i noticed this weekend that i have a widening gap by where the bumper/headlight/fender all meet, specifically with the bumper edge.

originally, i thought someone might've backed into me, but i didn't see any visual scuffs/damage indicating i got hit, although it's still a possibility (love tap). even if i did, i'm not sure i understand how that one section would pop out.

the other theory i had was maybe someone was trying to pry open my car to get my HIDs, but i didn't seen any confirmation of scratches.

so i'm kind of stuck as to the cause, but what i'm really looking for is a solution. i tried pushing the section of my bumper flaring outward back in to possibly click-in any clips that may have loosened, but nothing clicked. in fact, the main big tab seems like it's hooking onto the clip like it should. after pushing, there still a pretty big gap. more than the right side of my car.

what i think i'll do is probably remove the screws and bolts on that side of my car so i can just peel back that part of the bumper and try to push it back on and see if it sits flush like it should. otherwise, are there any sort of fixes to close the gap if the tabs end up being in the right spots and clicked in? this thing is bothering the hell out of me. i've attached some pics of the gap and section of the car in question. thanks.

That is strange. Any other panel gaps where a plastic and a metal panel meet? Could be deformation caused by heat, but the heat would have to be pretty extreme, and in NYC the only heat is from the hot air people talk around there.

I'd think that one of the more minor clips/pins might have come out somehow, either during a love tap or just because of vibration on the road. If you feel up to it, take the bumper off and check (have one or two spare clips on hand just in case)...

Or stop by a decent bodyshop and see if they can tell just by looking at it -- they see this kind of stuff all day and have more experience than I.

yeah, i thought if heat was a factor, but it really hasn't been that hot the past few days.

could it be the actual headlight housing? i tried to look at both sides to see if maybe the headlamp was depressed further in than the other, but i couldn't really tell. it looks ok to me.

i think i'll end up just peeling that part of the section of the bumper off for a look, but i was just curious to see if anyone else has ever had this issue. i think my last resort will be a body shop. i kinda want to avoid having to pay for a fix if i can diy it.

It sags.... if you take the bumper off, you'll see the hooks that hold the bumper up. Mine is a 5m gap now. Enough for small lizards to crawl through.

lol. yeah, i've noticed the general sag. but this is more like someone decided to pry it open, then stopped.

does victoria's secret make the best push up braw for modified front bumpers of TSX's yet?

i thought the gap under my headlights was un-natural, is there anyway to fix sagging, would like to have a tighter fit around headlights.

the sag/gap is normal.

but the gap in the pics i posted...that's not. even with sag, that corner piece shoulddn't flare out like that.

since u live in nyc, someone either hit ur car gently enough not to leave a mark, or even sometimes pedestrians in a rush just running into ur bumper.

you can replace those clips? i thought it's just hooks grabbing onto bumps there?

there's one hook that you can kind of see right under the light in the 1st pic. that's on.

the only thing i can come up with is that the rest of the little hooks to the right of that...the ones closer to the tip popped out and is sliding under where it should be. which is why when i press down, nothing snaps in b/c it's not going into the seam it's supposed to hook/clip into.

i f'ing hate SUVs. my brother-in-law said i was pretty much jammed in between 2 when i parked at the hospital b/c my wife and i had to bring our son in for some emergency treatment.

the irony is, when we left, some stupid garage had left their business card for 'collision repair.' i almost thought that they did the damage then left the card for me.

Interesting that it's the heat. I live in Miami, Florida and I have the same issue. I only noticed the gap happening only under the head light. It just keeps growing and growing and...

i'm not attributing this to heat. it can't be. if it is, then i'm taking it to the stealership for warranty service.

a buddy of mine suggested that the polyurethane warped b/c it was possibly squished by someone backing into my car, holding it, then moving forward.

can that even happen? i mean, i know it bends. but why would that 1 corner bend outward?

god, this is so annoying to think about. i need fix this somehow.

looks like the aftermath of an accidental tap w/o any surface damage.

definitely try to peel that side of the bumper off and reassemble it.

the gap under the headlights are normal. if you look at other TSX's, they have the same issue.

Hmm, I took apart my bumper when I installed the front lip. There's square plastic piece that we might be able to replace to close up that gap. Hmm...can anyone confirm this? I really hate the gap on one side of the bumper.

On other note, does anyone have dust inside their headlights? If so what's the best procedure to clear it?
