Brakes

Just wondering if anyone is having this problem. Everytime i would brake my car would shimmy a bit so i took it in and Acura replaced the brakes but now the new brakes squeak like a mother f'er. I took them back in and they can't seem to find a problem with them...Any suggestion?!?!

what part of the brake did they replace? rotar? pad?

a new brake setup can squeak and smell when they are first installed, before they are broken in.

Wayne Acura.

I've had the brakes on now for a month or more.... They replaced the front brake pads and i think they also cut the rotors. Its just weird to me that i didn't have this problem with the brakes when i got the car and they were brand new brakes....

I concur with virus7, new brakes can squeek and smell when they are first broken in.

TSX Girlie, they had to cut the rotors already? How many miles did you have on your first set of brakes?

The shimmy thing had me concerned because I've seen threads on this forum about the rotors being easily warped. But if they just replaced the brakes and cut the rotors and your only problem is squeeking, the new brakes probably just have to be broken in.

Break in period vaires anywhere from 400 to 500 miles. During this period you should avoid heavy breaking.

However I got this note from Tire Rack's website "NOTE: If a higher than normal amount of brake dust or excessive pad squeal from EBC pads and rotors is experienced, they may be glazed. Remove this glazing by decelerating aggressively from 60mph to 20mph in a safe area. This should be repeated 3 times. Then allow the brakes to cool by driving normally."

You may want to try this, let me know how you make out.

Oh, I got mine at Ryan's Open Road Acura.

I only had about 16k miles on my car when they replaced them. I'll try that method that you said and hope it works. I just hate the squeaking sound!

Viking that is cool that you got yours from Ryan's too...when did you buy yours?

Curious, were the brakes replaced under warranty? I had squeak problems fixed by Open Road also and the service was great.

Time to bring out my favorite brake link. Lots of good info on brake vibration and how to prevent it.

Just want to stress from Majormojo's link: "During pad or disc break-in, do not come to a complete stop, so plan where and when you do this procedure with care and concern for yourself and the safety of others. If you come to a complete stop before the break-in process is completed there is the chance for non-uniform pad material transfer or pad imprinting to take place and the results will be what the whole process is trying to avoid. "

And Majormojo congrats on +1000 posts!

For the slow guy, what does it mean to "cut a rotor"?

resurfacing the rotor to restore a smooth, flat friction surface for the new linings.
