Brake rotors problem?

For those who have experienced problems with the rotors, does the vibration happen only when you brake at highway speeds or also on local roads?

It appears that I'm starting to get a slight vibration, but only when I'm quickly slowing down from highway speeds (80mph). So far I have yet to notice it on local roads. I was wondering if this was a beginning sign that my rotors might have problems too later on.

I've notice some strong vibrations occuring when I'm braking from highway speeds. It actually feels rather uncomfortable.... What is the current situation with this issue?

That is a textbook description of a warp rotor. You notice it more at highspeeds.

You will have to have them resurfaced.

Unless, of course, they are the thin, "high-performance" rotors that don't have enough material to be turned and must be replaced when they warp. My wife's Z3 has those...

thin rotors... should never be called high-performance... it's just a gimmic to say... lightweight. I'm sure there are some real rotors out there that are both thin/lightweight and don't warp on a drop of a dime. But i'm sure the price goes up.

I have to say that the rotors that came with my GSR were not up to the job. I warp one of the front rotors within month of owning my car. I went with an "upgrade" rotor from EBC... warped one again... Some cars just need a bigger braking system to avoid warping rotors.

The braking system on the S2000... perfect. You can brake all day and no sign of fade and no warping. I suspect the TSX are the bare minimum brakes for that size car... which based on the number of warp rotors stories here is not enough brake.

Mine were shaking a little so I had the dealership turn the rotors under warranty.

It's a Honda thing.

My step-mom's '82 Civic's rotors warped. Same thing with TWO different mid-'90s Civic coupes. Now my TSX has the death wobble with less than 9K miles.

Mine were vibrating a lot, and all the time. So I took it in and got the 15k mile maintenance and they replaced the rotors for free under the warranty on top of the maintenance. I think that if I didn't pay for the maintenance, they probably wouldn't have thrown the rotors on there under warranty, but it's all better now!

if you want to prevent warping rotors you should try not to brake constantly when comming from speed to a stop. you want to brake in stages. when i come down from say 70 mps to an offramp i firstl of all down shift at least a gear. and apply the brakes using moderate pressure for only about 2-3 seconds. then lift off the brake and allow the rotors to cool a little. then shift another gear lower and again moderate pressure for a few seconds. if you repeate this method of stopping you will greatly reduce the chances of a warped rotor.
when you lay your foot on the peadal with light pressure for a long and smooth controlled stop you will put a lot of heat into the rotors. heating the rotors has more to do with the amount of time you use continusly braking whether hard or soft. so if you brake a little harder but not for extended periods you will probly never replace a rotor.
belive me i live in colorado where there are mountain roads everywhere. its very common to find yourself hauling 60 MPH to a stop light at the bottom of the hill and i have learned how to keep from warping any more rotors on any car i have had for the last 5 years.

bass, is right. or you can just go with a bigger brake kit... otherwise the problem is just going to come back because they put too small of a brake kit for the car.

Yeah Bass might be right, but we should NOT I repeat SHOULD NOT have to deal with this b/s. First its the doors, then the windshield, now its the brakes. I had the problem with my brakes too. So far it’s been in the shop twice, once for the doors and for the breaks. They resurfaced my brakes about 2k ago. Now they are starting to do it again. I have a 6mt I always slow down with my gears. I know it’s not that hard on the breaks, its obviously just cheep rotors. They will only cover breaks up to 12k after that you’re on your own. I've noticed the car is cheep where it counts the most.

Almost..

Brakes are a covered repair of the normal warranty. I just had mine resurfaced and the pads replaced for free.

The replacement brakes are covered for 12,000 miles or one year, true. However, I'd probably still go in and bitch them out if these brakes fail again so soon under the general car warranty.

I had my whole rotors replaced at over 15k on my car. So the 12,000 mile thing does not apply. I actually had to wait 2 weeks for them to get the rotors in for them to replace it.

I have the same situation daily at the highway. When I try to stop coming around 80mph the front brakes makes a noise. Iam considering buying the comptech rotors and pads to compensate but from previous situation with my accord I learned that slotted disks are better than drilled.
What do you thing ???
