Big AC problem

Well for the last 2 days, my ac compressor seemed to be broken. Whenever i would turn on the ac, i would hear a loud rattling noise coming from the compressor area. No cold air would blow out of the vents, so i pretty much figured something was wrong with the compressor. I just went out this morning to take a better look at it, so i turned on my car, waited a sec, and then hit the ac button. Next thing i know i hear this loud pressure and steam flying out from under my car. I look in the engine bay, and theres water all under where the compressor is. I think that is all the freon that just came out but not sure. Any help is appreciated. Going to take my car into acura tomorrow. God i wish i could trade my car in.

Isn't this the second blown compressor we have heard about in the past few weeks?

Yup.

Now we're talking problems... And I sure don't like to see that this problem seems to be spreading. It's costly, and seems to happen when cars become or are close to end their warranties.

This is a matter worth looking at in priority IMO.

i just dropped it off. The service manager that i spoke to said he had another case of something like this about a week ago on another tsx. No bill yet, not sure if its covered by warranty either. He said something about how tsx's use a high pressure freon hose, and if it broke, it would cause the freon to shoot out in the matter it did. Ill keep you guys updated when i hear more info.

Now i have to decide what acura model i want as a loaner now. Thinking either a stock tsx (i kinda miss and forget what my car feels like stock), a TL, or RL.

ive never driven the tl before and i hear that the rl doesnt feel like all that fast of a car. Ive never really looked into those 2 cars, im more of a smaller, sportier car kinda guy. Luxury is obviously nice to have, but i like the sportier side more. Thats why i like the tsx. Best of both worlds, unless you have an a/t... sigh

Don't let them or yourself be impressed by the size of the problem. IF you still have a warranty, this is MOST DEFINITELY a warranty job. If I was able to get my compressor replaced under warranty 80,000km after the warranty was gone, I'm sure it can be done without hassle for you as well.

just got the RL for a loaner, sweet car, too many features. Anyways the dealer says the compressors are backordered and have no idea how long it will take. Another guy with a tsx is in for the same problem and hes been and still waiting for the past 2 weeks. Im going to go to the dealer tomorrow to see if they could put me in an 04 6mt and trade in my at. Im really pissed at the whole situation right now.

I wonder if it with a group of VINs. Can you point us to the hose so we can tell if we have any premature wear? I'm getting ready to schedule for my seat rail... feels like the seat is sliding forward when you brake. It is getting annoying now.

UPDATE:

Well my car is STILL at the dealership. I brought it in on 8/25 and its now 10/02 and they still do not have it ready. The last i heard from them, they said they were going to take the compresor off another tsx and put it in mine. I havent heard anything lately, but last week by accident i found out they caused water damage in my engine compartment. I found out that somehow they released all the water in the coils and sprayed all over the engine. Rick case of plantation sucks, dont go there.

Though im not really bothering the dealership to have my car ready since i totaled their $50,000 rl.

Thw water

It is oil in with the freon, it uses very thin oil and looks like water. Probably popped an blow off disk that keeps the pressures from exceeding a critical point

Ah thats right, i was temp banned from this site when that happened but heres what happened about to me while driving the RL 3 weeks ago.

I was unlucky enough to blackout while driving. I woke up a few minutes later, and slowly became to realize that i was still in the car and just crashed into something. I went straight into a big tree, front end smashed in a good 4 feet like a V, all the airbags deployed, car was totaled. I'm still horified by the sight of the car, i cant believe the damage of it. I came out of it with just a broken ankle and torn bicep muscle.

The twist of the story is that my car was being serviced for this ac problem this post is about, and they gave me a rl loaner for the time my car has been in there. I am 20, and supposivlely you need to be atleast 21 to get loaner car in your name. They gave me the car anyways and i ended up getting into the accident.

Its been about 4 weeks since the accident and everything is going better. It doesnt seem ill have to pay for the car because acura actually had a few errors dealing with the rental contract. They gave me the car in my name but had only my moms signature. They also forgot to make me sign and check a seperate box tying me to legal issues.

In the end, this has been a life changing experience for me, really making me rethink life. Im just glad i made it out ok.

I am glad you made it out OK, too. But, shouldn't you be liable for your actions whether you had control over them or not? That is why you have insurance, to cover your mistakes. Suck it up and take responsibility for the accident & pay for the RL YOU totaled.

My compressor went out ( '04 TSX ) Sept.17th. Compressors were back-ordered...plus Rita came through. Got it back last thursday, the 29th.

AC has been frigid...until this morning. Driving to work, AC won't cool down. No mechanical grinding this time, hopefully it'll be a fuse or something.

Taking it in at 1PM.

Alright ill just take out the 50k in my wallet i have and give it to acura. Im 20 years old and already 7k in debt. My insurance company still hasnt let me know if they are gonna cover me for the accident. We have been going back and forth on the phone, and im still waiting for a response. Acura themselves are the ones that found the flaws in the contract, not me or a lawyer or anything. They pointed out their own mistakes and let me know about them. Its not like im trying to slither my way out of my mistakes.

The compressors being on backorder is the reason why my car was been at acura for over a month. What they eventually had to do was order an after market compressor, and not use oem parts. As of now they are just waiting on some kind of valve and it should be ready. Hopefully its not your compressor thats not working right, if so your car could be at acura for a while.

I have the same compressor problem with my car. I took it in today and they said they ordered the parts and would have it in tomorrow and fixed and ready to go tomorrow. Hopefully this little epidemic doesnt get any worse or more widespread.

compressor went over the weekend! was driving and heard a bad noise - within seconds it was hot air coming out. Dealer says it is backordered and could be a couple of weeks. Complained but Acura has terrible customer service. Last time I get an Acura.

A/C is fixed only 1 week of down time. Great customer service will recommend anyone to Esserman Acura in Doral. They did everything they could to fix the problem and get me into a loaner. They didnt have a loaner and enterprise doesnt rent to people under 21 but they made the repair as fast as possible. Got the part in a week and was ready a day and a half later.

floridaowner, i just got my car back from rick case acura off of 441 and sunrise for the same exact problem. But it had been there for over a month, sitting in thier lot, waiting for a compress which never came. They ended up take a compressor off a diff tsx, and ordered some other non-oem parts to finish up the rest.
