Auto dimming mirror
Mine's been doing that lately too, when it's dusky or overcast, exspecially when I pass under some trees. It'll get stuck for a while on dark, then lighten up, and I've noticed it flickering sometimes. I planned to ask the dealer about it next time I take it in for service.

Probably u hook some tags behind your rear view mirror.
There's a sensor behind the mirror. It detects if it's day or night by getting input of the light intensity from the front and regulate it with coming light intensity from the back.
Tinting window will normally do nothing different unless you tint your windshield. You will see the same brightness as before..but since you tinted the glass, the mirror might not dim as much as before(but you still see the same brightness),...but it's yourself that psychologically affected because you got used to the dark environment in the car....well..think about it

There's a sensor on both sides (front and back). Tinting could in fact affect the performance of the sensor pointing to the rear of the car.
I just wish the side view mirrors dimmed like in the Audi A4.
What I wouldn't do for a dimming mirror that reacted to the sun in the back of the car!!!

The mirror reacts to the difference between the light in front and the light from behind. If it's dark in front (as it would be at night) and bright from behind (when there are bright headlights behind you) it'll dim the mirror. If you tint the rear windshield, you've already reduced the amount of light coming in from behind, so the mirror would dim a bit less.
One way to "balance" things might be to tape a small piece of tint film over the front sensor.

Of Course!
Thanks to your replies, I moved my hang tag and the mirror works fine again. The tag must've shifted enough to block the back sensor. At some point, I knew about the sensor in the front, but I didn't put two and two together.
Thanks for the tip!

It is normal for the mirror to adjust the tint level.
It only dims out when it senses light going into the sensor, for example, when a car is directly behind you. However, if there is no glaring light, the mirror would brighten back up. You can test this out by shining a flash light at the sensor, be sure to have the headlights on though. I think the mirror is activated by the headlight switch, but dont quote me on that.....good luck
