Any Oil consumers out there yet??
Any Oil consumers out there yet??
I'm a beer consumer
and my RSX type S is an oil consumer
I will go through 2 quarts between oil changes (5K miles)
My old CRX Si never did this.
It's wierd, some K20 motors do this and some dont. Some do it so bad that folks have had their blocks replaced under warrantee. Has the K24 showed any signs of being an Oil consumer too anyone??
Just to be safe, make sure you all check your oil levels between oil changes so you know how your car is doing. alot of folks blow it off thinking its a new car -why bother, next thing you know your having to replace your motor

I check all the under-hood fluids at every gas fill up. Filled the tank on the TSX for the first time last night and the oil level was BELOW the add mark. I topped it up, but I'm really annoyed that 1) the dealer sent it out that way and 2) I didn't check it myself when I picked it up. I just ASSumed it was OK.
I had to add a half quart (1/2 litre for us Canuks) at 2,400 miles. I expected this since I've pushed the car hard for 2 weeks. I keep a close eye on the level every week.
This is normal for a high revving 4 cyl engine during a proper break-in period.

I drive a GS-R, and yes the 4 cylinder V-tecs burn a little oil. I am not surprised the TSX burns a little too. Bu tI would be concerned if its that new and it burns oil. Check it in the morning when its cold, and then check it after a start. Compare the difference. Don't forget the first 6000 km Honda puts some different type of oil in there to break it in.

I've located the source of my high oil consumption. It's an oil leak !
I checked my oil at around 600 miles , at my second fill up and found it almost a quart low. I added about half a quart to bring it up a bit. I didn't want to over fill it.
Upon checking underneath the car , it turns out the plastic cover that is used to access the drain plug was almost dripping with oil.
The top of the engine is brand new clean.
I checked the drain plug for snugness as well as the filter which was also ok. I dried them both off and the next time I drove it the oil pan was wet again. I suspect its the oil pan gasket.
It appears to be on the back of the engine (firewall side) more towards the passenger side.
What else is down that low ? The oil sensor ? any seals ?
I haven't been really pushing the car either. I just started revving it over 5K when i hit about 800 miles. prior to that 3-4K was about the max.
haven't contacted the dealer...it snowed today so I'm driving my Jeep w/ 4 Blizzaks(which doesn't leak BTW) !!!

I've got a little over 8200 miles and 2 oil changes already (3k and 7.5k). Took a 1k trip over the Thanksgiving holiday pushing 80mph most of the way and used about .25 qt. That is pretty normal in my mind for sustained traveling.
Under my normal driving patterns (30 miles round trip to work) I don't loose anything.

For those who claim that your car burns oil, how is your driving style? Do you get into VTEC (high rpm/redline) more than 50% of the time when you drive? If so, you found your problem. Both my Prelude and Integra burn oil, I had to put in at least 1 quart of oil in between oil changes. I'm not complaining because I know my driving style. Plus I do auto-x both cars a lot (well, at least in 2002). :P
My GS-R goes through 1 1/2 quarts for every 5000miles. On the other end of the spectrum... i add no oil in my hybrid for every 5000 miles traveled. In fact I can't even see a change on the dip stick (same level every time i check it). I know it's impossible to not burn any oil but this comes close.
