Alpine Navi spontaneously works after disc reading error
I have a 2005 TSX w/ Navi (purchased new). About 2 months ago, the Navi displayed the DVD disc reading error sporadically. After reading the forum here, I contacted Alpine, whose tech advised me to send the unit in with a check for $358 to have it repaired.
I had other financial priorities, so decided to sit it out. Per the threads I read here, I knew the problem would get worse, and sure enough, it did. Got so it would display the error even if I did not engage the navi at the start screen.
However, something funny happened this week. I had an ignition coil go bad and took the car in to my own mechanic (not the dealer) to fix.
When I got the car back, I noticed that I didn't get the error when the system started. So, I decided to engage the navi at the start screen. It's working! I have no flippin' idea why. The mechanic didn't do anything with it that I am aware of (I left a msg on his cell and not heard back).
I've never heard of a mechanical or electrical problem spontaneously resolving.
Any ideas? I'm crossing my fingers that the unit will continue to work, but I'm not deluding myself.

If you read the thread "All you ever want to know about Navi..." you'll find that dirty LEd is sometimes the problem. It's active in 1st Gen TSX now. There's a link to a cleaning procedure.
I can imagine that a dirty lens might be intermittent. Vibration might cause dust to fall off.
good luck

It was on the forum. Using search engine and "navi" for title search only you will get many pages of hits. You will need to look at all of these to find.
Search engine sucks and won't allow use of "exact match" feature to isolate thread title from the many titles containing "navi".
