Absolutely unacceptable wind noise / reverbration

I have just purchased a 6speed TSX (now have 250Km on it) , and when travelling at more than 70Km per hour there is a terrible wind reverbration when one or both of the rear windows are down or partway down, If the front windows are down or the sun roof is open there is no problem. The reverbration is more than irritating it is almost painful. Is anyone else is experiencing this problem. The problem is worse in the front seat than the back.

Also, the stereo has way too much bass even when the controls are flat, and is not as loud as I expected. Is anyone else experiencing this and are the two problems connected?

I don't know the physics behind it, but the reverberation with just the back windows down is normal, based on my experience.

As far as the audio settings, it takes some experimentation to find what suits your taste. I typically have the treble at +1 or +2, bass at 0 or lower, unless I'm listening to songs that are meant to boom the bass. I also send the sound to the rear (fade) a few notches, R2 or R3, which reduces some of the treble distortion, while minimizing the front door rattling.

The TSX sound system suits my needs just fine, and I'd bet it's as good as any stock system in this price range. But I'm no audiophile

Most cars do this. Just open another window and all is well.

Yep. Wind pressure buffeting.

Yeah, it's what Lung said.

HJD, I know exactly what you mean. And I had it on some prior cars too. I talked about it on this other thread, and we had some discussion of it:

(The discussion of this starts at about the 6th post on that thread.)

From my 1979 Monte Carlo, through two Celicas (with a minivan tossed in for good measure) I have over the last twenty five years not driven a sedan, nor ridden in the back of anything other than a limo to the airport.

Now all I need is a rear window only lock out button so the kids cannot roll them down - seven year olds love buttons like this.

Thanks

H.

Remember, you can minimize and eliminate that noise by opening one of the front windows. It decreases A LOT when you open one of the front windows even just a tiny bit, and it all but disappears if you open that front window just a quarter of the way or so.

that noise happens to all 4 doors cars.....
u can elimate it by getting a door visor if you want..
it involves some phyics on airflow or some thang, but since i suck at phyics i no wanna say what my comments are

No, not if you mean the visors that I think you mean (above the windows?), because I have them, and it doesn't prevent this.
Doesn't even significantly reduce it.

i guess it depends how far you rolled down ur window...
if you roll down pass the depth of the visor then the sound will appear...

my dad's car have the visor and if i only roll down a bit to let in some fresh air.. there will be no noise

Aha! Makes sense. I should've known that was what you meant.

All of my cars have had this especially if the windows are up and the sunroof is open... terribly easy to solve too.

Another I have is at 40MPH with and windows partially/fully open, I get a major vibration with the sunroof open from the sunroof wind deflector.... I mean, you can feel it VERY strongly throughout the car. BTW, I get it at around 100MPH, but I'm less concern about that speed. Anyone else get the vibration from the wind deflector (the stock one that is, not the add-on accessory)?

Haven't noticed anything, will try to look for it.

P.S. Maybe haven't noticed it because I tend to have the sunroof open only when the windows are closed.

P.P.S. (Edit) I did look for it, hard, every which way, and I don't have it.
Could your wind deflector be loose?

Nope. And I drive with the windows/sunroof open all the time.

Think of it this way...
If you only have the back windows open it's sort of like a big old parachute.
The section behind your back window and that section above the back of your back seats can form a big pocket. So... if you only have the back windows open then all of the air will get trapped there like a parachute.
If you have a front window open then the air is going in through the front window and will exit before it has a chance to get stuck back there.
But if you only have a rear open, the air has nowhere to go but in.

You think it's bad on a TSX? It scared the shit out of me in my 540 that i had. I could feel the huge pressure change in my ears.
