ABS Modulator

I have a 2008 TSX and had the battery replaced a few weeks ago. My VSA, ABS and brake lights are now on. I had a diagnostic run on my car and was told that the ABS modulator needed to be replaced, due to an internal value failure. I was quoted $2,500 to get it fixed. I have started doing research and want to know if an ABS modulator and ABS pump modulator are the same thing. The price difference between the two is about $2,200. I just need to make sure I am purchasing the correct part. Any advise...

Several questions,

1) Are you the original owner of the car?

2) How many miles does your car have?

This has not been a common problem seen in first generation tsx cars. I can't say that i have ever read about this problem on the boards. And specially strange is that you have the very latest of the 2004-2008 tsx cars where you would think they would correct all bugs and defects.

Yes, I am the owner of the car. I have never had any trouble with it until this happened a few weeks ago. It has appx 78K miles on it.

I would get a second opinion before spending that much money.

Do you know what ABS codes were detected? This might suggest whether modulatpr/Pump is necessary.

A leaking or failed valve is usually a death sentence as they are not repairable, at least on the Accord modulators I've inspected. I tore one down to see why the valve was leaking, but had to give up when I reached a dead end; part could not be removed w/ my tools.

In my experience (none on TSX thankfully) the terms modulator and pump are used interchangeably. Technically, they are two different parts, but are usually part of the same assembly and are replaced together.

I checked car-part.com and found plenty of "anti lock brake pumps" for < $200.

I agree w/ others that a 2nd opinion is indicated.

good luck
