6MT gear grinding problems
6MT gear grinding problems
I don't want to bore anyone so here are my problems:
Reverse grinds, have to shift very quickly from 3 into 4, and then into reverse..sometimes still makes a kachunk noise.
1st gear is often hard to get into, feeling nearly blocked...have to push a bit and even then it feels metallic.
None of the shifts are all that smooth feeling, very metallic into the gears.
This is a 2004 tsx, it has ~130,000 miles. I bought it at 80,000 miles from the previous owner, and I know the clutch hasn't been replaced. I know how to drive this car, very smooth other than the metallic feeling of putting it into gear. Never hard on it driving-wise. I don't know a whole lot about symptoms of when clutches are failing, however there are no rpm jumps or falls which I've read are indicative of clutches going out. About a month ago I had tranny fluid replaced, it was very dark and had a few tiny flakes in it.
Is my transmission dying?
Any help or suggestions would be very appreciated.

I should have been more clear. I meant in order for it not to grind going into reverse, I have to do the sequence of 3-4-R quickly...I guess it lines the gears up.
Would rebuilding a gear correct the metallic feeling of shifting into the others?

that would be my last resort.
you're probably out of warranty, and all the cost is on you.
the cost of labor to take out the clutch and tranny will kill you.
I say you should drain the MTF that is in there now, and try out the 60 dollar magic juice, first. GM Syncromesh fluid friction modified.
