2005 TSX Timing Marks - Looks BAD..I think

Hey All - so after 115K miles my 05 TSX decided to start burning oil faster than it did in the past. I was 1.5 qts low a few weeks back (which I promptly corrected) and then the evil PO341 happened last week. Per the dealer's recommendation I changed oil and had the OBD reset but the PO341 came back 20 miles later.

I pulled the valve cover and rotated the engine until the dark links in the timing chain 'sort of' lined up with the marks on the gears when the cam and vtec gears were at TDC. Instead of the dark links lining up over the tooth with the mark, they appear to be a tooth 'to the left' of where they should be. Here's a picture that hopefully shows the problem (if you can zoom in and see the detail) ...https://picasaweb.google.com/lh/phot...eat=directlink

Has anyone seen this before? Am I diagnosing the skipped tooth thing right? Do I need to replace the chain, tensioner, guides?

thanks for any help / advice...KC

It is tough to see the marks from your picture. Is the crankshaft lined up to the TDC mark?

The tensioner for sure. Don't know about the chain itself but you should probably do it since it may be stretched.

Most of the TSXs with this problem have been 2004 models.

I have several questions:

1) Are you the original owner of this car?

2) If you are the original owner of the car, how did you drive the car during its original break in period up to the first 600 to 1000 miles? Did you take long trips on the highway with the throttle at a steady pace or did you stay on the city streets varying the speed of the car?

3) At what mileage did you start to notice oil burning problems?

4) How much oil does the car consume? How many miles can you get per 1 quart before you have to add another quart?

5) when you say you were 1.5 quarts low, does this mean the level of the oil was below the bottom mark on the dipstick or was the level between the two marks on the dipstick?
