V1 Hardwire Install Pics

I got my V1 hardwired by my favorite stereo shop. They did a super clean job. They sent the telephone wire up the shoot to where the auto dimming mirror wire goes through. There is a small clip that holds the auto-dimming mirror wire. They pushed the V1 telephone wire to use the same clip to secure the telephone wire in place. I'm not sure where they tapped into to get power. I presume it's from the auto-dimming wire?? I do notice that if I push the OFF button on the mirror, the V1 still works, though.

Looks great man! What do you do with the wire if you don't happen to have your radar detector up? Does it kind of just hang there?

Anyone know a place where I can get a retractable phone cord?

Smoothie, can you hit me up with your 411 and the quote you got? I've been wanting to hardwire my v1 for a while now.

Man, do people even use those anymore?

My best bet would be Radio Shack or eBay?

The shop wired it through the shaft where the auto-dimming mirror wire is. But they just left it dangling. In other words, after the install, they left my telephone wire dangling from the place where the auto-dimming wire connects to the rearview mirror. I thought that was ugly. Therefore, luckily there was enough slack in the wire for me to pull out a bit and snake it between the V1 suction cup and the V1 bracket.

The install is so clean that the setup looks good even when the V1 isn't mounted ha ha.

That's one of the highest-end stereo shops in Houston. Chris Franks is the manager and the guy I deal with. One of his installers did the hardwire install for me for $50 in about 1 hr. Call them up and make an appointment. Tell them that the guy with that black TSX sent ya!

Question...does it really matter where you set up the detector? Would it really make a big difference if it is not in the center dash? I was just thinking if the cop is hidding in some bush already...a window....steering wheel or something isn't gonna do a lot of difference on detecting the radar, because I don't like the fact that the radar is in my driving vision

Just a thought...

Placement is an important consideration when mounting nay radar detector. A general rule is mount it where there is least obstruction for both the front and rear sensor on a V1. My locaton is perfect for me since the rear sensor has a straight line shot to the rear window. It doesn't really bother me that it's in my line of site.

I think if you want to catch the radar signal from the cop at the earliest possible time, mount it where I've got mine. Some people mount it in their visor, which I think would not be as effective.

That's where I mounted mine as well. I know a lot of people like mounting it really low close to the dash... but I think it's really ineffective since the backseats are higher, but I guess if you don't have a V1 it doesn't matter if the cop is behind you because you can't tell.

Yeah I have mine mounted a little lower than yours, but I've also heard that the higher the better.
