"JDM"-inized headlights and new grills
well, i finally got around to doing this mod. took us one day working at a very leisurely pace, and i love how it turned out! props to one mr. chad larson without whom this project wouldn't have happened. we painted the interior housing gloss black except for the chrome rings and tinted the turn signals.
oh yeah, it's been raining for the last 3 days.

Your ride looks phat....Supa clean
I like the mesh grill on the bottom. Very interesting. If I put some in place of the foglight covers, then more air can get to the CAI intake
Where did you get the mesh grill?

We started by removing the bumper. There are a few threads that show how to take it off, but we kinda just started unbolting stuff and popping out clips. Also check out moda_ways’s cardomain page. It took about 5 - 10 minutes to take it off. You have to remove several bolts and pop clips from underneath the front, and screws in the wheel well.
Once we got the bumper off, Chad took the dremel to the back of the bumper, and cut off the plastic piece that was in front of the radiator. Then we cut out a piece of mesh and zip tied it to the back of the bumper in 5 places. We didn’t cut anything out of the side grills. Chad cut the mesh to fit back in the holes, and zip tied them into place. Bumper done.
The headlights were really easy. Pop a headlight in the oven at 200 degrees for about 10 minutes. Take it out and pry on it with a flathead or whatever. Put it back in for another 5 minutes, and you should be able to pull it apart. The black plastic piece and the turn signal just pull right out. There are two bolts that you have to unscrew to get the chrome housing out. One of them is fairly obvious; the other one is hidden under a gray plastic piece. Once you get the bolts undone, you just have to pull at the chrome piece to get it to come out. It slides into the outer housing at two points. It’s not actually attached by anything, but it’s in there good. Once you get the chrome part separated from the rest of the headlight, everything else is pretty easy. Just tape off the parts you don’t want to paint and go crazy.
Putting them back together is simple, too. Just reseal the headlights with some silicon and your good. Three days of rain and no condensation for me.
We used gloss black paint because that’s what we had lying around at the time. Chad did the actual tinting of the turn signals, and I’m not really sure what his method was.
I’m getting the whole database error thing as I write this, so if there are any questions I missed, I’ll get back to ya.
