Ice Fishing on Lake Champlain

I was driving to fill the car up in Vermont (border of Vt, NY and Canada) yesterday, and I noticed how Lake Champlain was all frozen solid, but it was bald ice everywhere.

If one were to wear skates and skate around, he could have gone on for miles and miles.

Anyways, I took 2 pictures of guys fishing on the ice.

500-700 ft away (hard to tell on such blank ice):

About 1/4 mile away:

Wish I was them!!

Cool shots Sauceman! I've never had much luck ice fishing but it's always a good excuse to go drinking with the boys.

You bet! It's about the only thing that'll keep you warm on a frozen lake when it's -25C. The windchill is just

But the beer stays cold, in fact you have to drink it fast if you don't want it to freeze too, You will need a 24 almost for sure if you're gonna stay out there for some time.

Good times..

sauceman, who loves ice fishing, and remembers well the good ole weekend days in Val d'Or when he used to fish on ice.

There wasn't any. Maybe the ice wouldn't have held those yet. It had just frozen overnight.

I guess you really gotta be into fishing.

I really gotta get to deep-sea fishing at some point. How cool would it be to catch a nice big king mackerel!

Those are nice pictures, but I wonder how bored are they during the time waiting for the fish to be caught.

Did some fishing of my own this week-end with a few buddies...

Dan, I thought you might get a kick out of seeing those pics.

It was bitter cold, but we were well equipped to deal with it.

We drank a lot more beer than we caught fish, but it's all good!

One of my buddies enjoying the warmth..

Nice!

To me it's just an elaborate scheme to hang out and drink all weekend.

I have fallen through the ice more times than I've caught fish ice fishing.

I didn't, but one of my friends there did. We went on a 4 wheeler "expedition" and 5 minutes later he broke through the ice on a small creek not much larger than twice the width of the Kawas. He went in thigh deep. I had to winch his Kawa out.

We had a good laugh and a few extra beers over it.

sauceman, who agrees about the big scheme..

Women don't want anything to do with ice fishing because:
1) it's cold
2) there's the possiblilty that they might see a fish
3) putting worms or minnows on hooks is gross

I can't think of a better decoy myself.
I'm quite impressed by the elaborate display of fishing rods around the hut. It's like women repellent. You wouldn't have a woman coming within 500' of your hut.
