Tuning ahead!

I just got my Apexi AFC Neo unit today, and i plan on installing it on friday, and getting the car Dyno tuned on saturday. A guy on the "other" forum used the Neo successfully to tune his car, as well as lowering the VTEC point. The settings did NOT reset when he repeatedly turned his car on and off. He installed Skunk2 Cams on his car, and is awaiting a dyno tune as well. I dont have the cams yet, but if all goes well with this unit, i plan on purchasing them in the future. Ill let you guys know how it goes after the dyno

Dosent look like thats possible, according to Apexi's site:

Revolutionary color FED display easily customized by the user. *Not compatible with i-VTEC for controlling i-VTEC (can still be used as a fuel controller)*

im fully aware of what apexi says, but as i said, their statement has been proven wrong by the guy on the "other" boards. Im still not 100% sure that it will work, but hey, if it gives us another option than hondata, im willing to be the test subject.

I was looking forward to see his dyno tune too, but after I see his car... I don't really know what he claims is true or not.

That guy has skunk2 camshaft, hondata ecu reflash (but he has 05 5AT?), Apexi Neo controller.... and a bunch of shit...

To each their own....I happen to hate the wheels and the spoiler, but i like everything else. He has an 05' AT, but he did the 04' ECU swap to get the reflash. The hood is the N1 hood, this is the first time ive seen it on a TSX, and i happen to think it looks pretty good.

i actually kind of like that hood though, isn't it bad for the engine though to have an opening like that where rain will pour through?

I found that thread and there's absolutely no proof to what that guy is claiming. I guess we'll find out from you...

yeah this should be very interesting to see what happens. i am not sure why epexi would say their product doesn't work with our cars if it really does. they would be robbing themselves from potential sales...

Are you sure he did the 04 ecu swap?

To my understanding alot of people want to do it but how many can get their hands on an 04 ecu?

Ok, to each their own. Stop bashing other peoples rides.

And I thought Apexi didnt work because our ECU "learns" unless it was hard reflashed like Hondata...???

The ECU relies on inputs from many different sensors to calculate fuel trims. A piggyback unit intercepts signals from a few of these sensors, and alters them, in attempt to fool the ECU into fueling for a different condition than what exists.

Problems arise due to the amount of sensors the ECU listens to. It sees readings from some sensors that conflict with what its programming says the other sensors should read in that condition. What happens will vary, but usually the result is that the ECU simply ignores the modified signals being generated by the piggyback and resumes operation in a fail-safe mode. Out of nowhere, the tune you spent hours and possibly hundreds of dollars tweaking on the dyno is gone forever, and your car is running like crap. It can be really unsafe if you are relying on one to keep a turbo from grenading your engine. In any case, it is a huge waste of money.

This is just a general example of why piggybacks can sometimes be unreliable on the newer engines with really complex electronic controls. I am really not sure how a VAFC would work with the TSX because I do not know anyone who has tried one. It might work fine. The guy who claims it works sounds like a ricer though. Personally, I'll never take any technical advice from a guy that puts a rear spoiler on a FWD car.

Yeah, I'm waiting for results. I'm going to hold judgement until I see some. I think a piggy back on the TSX will work if it's intercepting the output signals of the ECU instead of the input signals. I know the Comptech one that comes with the SC kit works, and my guess is that's how they they are doing it. Intercepting the output signals, while giving the MAP sensor signal a clamped voltage so that the ECU never sees boost and doesn't throw a CEL.

something like the Unichip would work...that modifies the signals coming out of the ECU. Turbonetics uses them in a lot of their turbo kits, I used one on my supercharged tC...it also has 2 maps that you can switch back and forth from and was able to control my water/meth setup, or if someone is looking to run some juice you can use that as a controller.

Every time this thread gets bumped I'm reminded how utterly terrible that riced-out TSX on the first page looks. Gahhhh. *shudder*

Guys, not sure if any of you are also on the "Other" forum. Anyways, there's some news.

There's another guy w/ I/H/E + Pulleys + Skunk2 camshaft + Hondata 5AT ECU Reflash + AFC Neo Controller (It said not ideal for i-vtec on their website wtf?) has his car tuned and dynoed. 195whp and 140tq. His car is 05 5AT.

That looks pretty low to me consider he got that much stuff on his car. His whp looks decent/good actually, but torque is terrible. I have most of his stuff except skunk2 camshaft/ECU reflash/AFC Neo controller makes 175whp/146wtq.

Can you link to the thread, or is there some reason we are all carefully dancing around the fact that it exists?
