Hi I just bought a 2004 TSX. I love the HID's, but I noticed that my H1 stock highbeams are abnormally yellow coloured. I previously owned an 01 Jetta, and every aftermarket bulb I put in it always burnt out within a couple months. Thus, I am interested in any of you more experienced Acura owners know of good aftermarket bulbs, either bright white or blueish white, that last in the TSX?

i used to have silvania silverstars in my previous car, and i was very happy with them. they are not blueish, but clear. also hoen seems to have a nice set, i think someone on here has them. i am interested in their foglights mainly, but they do seem to make highbeams too. but i really liked the look of the silver stars, they didn't make the car look like i wanted to be fake hid's like some blue lights. they were clear, and i might be picking up a set of highbeams for the tsx.

 

Aftermarket bulbs are junks!!
PIAA or Silverstars lasts little longer but they all have short life span.

I had a 98 Accord three years ago and probably I spent $40~50 on a new pair of headlights every month because they burnt out so fast and some didn't even lasted two weeks. Tried Hiper, Nokya, APC, Eurolite, Silverstar, and PIAA. Among them Silverstar lasted as long as PIAA and was cheaper.

Get a HID conversion if you really want lights with long life.
But what is the point of changing high beam when it is not used often??
May be for the looks??

I got the PIAA H1's. Very white. 4300K - stock HID color. Not sure how long they actually last though.

If you want to do the HID conversion, you can get a H1 conversion kit for about $400. For a bulb that is almost never used it is not worth it IMO. Also, you use the high beams to flash other cars. HID's don't flash well because they can be damaged by sharp transients of current which produces heating/cooling spikes in the gas and drastically reduces lamp life. Same reason stadium lighting takes almost an hour to restart once power is interrupted.

Basically I suggest getting some PIAAs or Silverstars. You'll be pleased.

 

I replaced my H1s about 2-3 weeks ago with Silverstars. It's not an exact match (HID=4300K and Silverstar=4000k) but it's better than the stock. If you look at it during the day, there's a big difference between them but at night they seem to match better. I'm not sure if it was worth it. Haven't been on the highway since I got them so I don't know how well they light up the road.

 

Can you post pics of these bulbs on your car? I've been thinking of getting the Piaa Ion Yellow bulbs for my high beams. I had the ion yellow for my fogs on a 2000 accord and loved the look with a retrofitted HID kit.

 

How are the yellows for driving though? After using HIDs I can barely stand the spectral quality of wannabe-white halogens, so I can't imagine what using a deliberately yellow bulb would be like. Basically I'm wondering how good they are for driving, despite the JDM look or whatever.

 

IMO, they didn't really make much of a diff. from a lighting standpoint. With the fogs, there was just a yellow hue on the ground. I'm assuming since these will be high beams it will be noticeably brighter and probably will not use them as much. TBH, I'd just be getting them for looks.

 

Phillips "blue vision" bulbs are supossed to be good.....

 

-i think i tried those phillips bulbs a while back and they were terrible. A lot more yellow than blue. Nothing compared to the silverstars I had on my jetta, and they aren't even that white..

 

CATZ are the way o go...to bad they don't make CATz anymore...

 

 

My HIDS are not stock. 6000K..they arent as bright as the 4300Ks but they look 100 times better!

 

i bought a set of jap aftermarket blubs for my EuroR foglights .. and it's still working great .. and haven't have any problems for almost an yr now .. and i turn it on everytime when it gets dark ~ and they r almsot as bright as the HID

 

You may know this already.......but just in case.... when istalling these bulbs you should not touch the glass with you bare hands at all! If you do, they will blow out prematurely for sure! Happens every time! They last 1/8 as long with your finger grease on them.

 

I read on the net that all aftermarket HID kits are illegal for street use, is that true?

 

As long as you install them correctly they are fine.

I had a huge glare issue with my aftermarket kit on my Accord, but I thought it's usually due to the reflector housing being made for halogen lighting as opposed to HID lighting.

 

What year accord?

 

 

2000 v6 coupe. I see a couple people from the v6p boards here. Apparently we had the same idea when the tsx came out.

 

Is there any way to turn just the High Beams on without the HID's going on?

All Canadian cars have day time running lights (just the high beams) so I'm assuming you can do it to your TSX.
