I tried using it without a lock nut but then there is a gap. Yes, I can use the stock nut, I'll try it out next weekend. (I get home too late to try it during the week).

I did a little search and came up with tape or rubber bands on the shifter to hold the boot up. Do you have another suggestion?

Can you see them? Do the pics you recently posted have them holding it up?

Same idea but with better material. Go to your local hardware store plumbing dept and look for O-rings of the proper size that fits over the shifter. They have thick O-rings which are more durable than rubber bands.

Wow, that mugen knob looks great. Don't know how it would look in my tan interior though... After seeing peter_bigblock's pics of the skunk2 knob, I just ordered one last night since I found it on sale for $35 here:

http://www.hyperformanceauto.com/Sku...nobs-C716.aspx

How much do those mugen knobs go for?

$99 USD plus shipping. It's lighter than the OEM one though, I wish it was a little heavier.

Everyone is buying the skunk knob

jackacc, thats a good price. Their commonly $40-42 on e-bay. Just make sure they send you the 627-99-0081 and not 627-99-0080. I think that site has a typo.

IMO the skunk knob feels far better in hand than the stock knob. I've realy enjoyed shifting these past few days.

Wow, good eye Dom, I just noticed that. My invoice says SKN-627-99-0080 - Skunk2 Shift Knob for 6-Speed Honda Applications, 10X1.5 thread pitch - and it was billed for $35.35. So I am hoping they pulled the right one to send me even though the part number is wrong on the site and on the invoice.

I called and emailed to doublecheck. Worst case, I'll swap it out with them since it is their mistake.

Nice catch, thanks!

I just received the skunk2 knob tonight and man it is HEAVY!! Even compared to stock. Feels really nice to shift with. My only complaint is that with the lock nut on, it sits a little high for my taste (I had the stock knob on without the nut and the pattern matched up straight)

But this knob is crooked without the lock nut... soooo, I am going to have to do a mod I performed on my old accord. I am going to use my tap and die set to thread the stock shifter down another inch or so and cut it. There is a great writeup about it here:

http://www.filtsai.com/accord/cut_shifter/index.php

It is a bit ghetto I guess but it worked great in my accord. I am only talking about dropping the height an inch or so. I cut almost 2 inches off my 2001 accord shifter. But you know how high those things are from the factory... it was like a 1960's delivery truck...

Here was my accord after I rethreaded and cut, plus a new shift knob. It came out to be nearly 3" lower than stock and shifted awesome.

Talk to Perter_bigblock (the man who gave us all the idea for the skunk) He used something caled locktite (I think) instead of the locknut to lower his. No idea what that intails.
I personally like the shifter alittle higher. Easier to manouver when your holding a coffe and rowing gears at the same time.

locktite is like a cement compound you use to lock things together tite
like super glue but stronger.

Oh, that makes sense, his looked pretty low and I didn't see a locknut on there. I think I am going to rethread the shifter anyway.

The threads in the Skunk2 go all the way to the top of the shifter, so I'll be able to crank the locknut and the knob down about another inch. I'll post pics after it's done.

Damn this skunk2 knob gets cold. I can't drive without gloves and it takes 20-30 minutes to warm up. Brrrr....I may have to put the stock knob back on for winter.

Be that as it may, I love the Skunk2 and can't speak highly enough of it. It looks like it could be stock in an ebony interior, and feels so so good. I've had female friends refer to it as "pretty". Not sure how I feel about that but I do like the knob!

I can't drive with or without gloves? Try putting one of those sock things on the knob till it warms up?

Shifter Knobs

I have a Voodoo Ball Titanium on my S2K that I originally got for my TSX. Sold the TSX in October 2005 and loved it! Love the S2K more, however -- a totally different animal that works OK for me as a daily driver.

The Voodoo Ti was $135.00, a bit much, but it is excellent. Ti is heavier than aluminum, less than stainless-steel. IIRC, the Ti is about 38 grams heavier than the stock S2K knob.

I have a 2007 Si on order and the Voodoo knob will find a home there. I'm still waiting for Nighthawk Black Pearl with Navi -- December begins FIVE months of wait!!

BTW, the Ti does not get as hot as the other metals and has a "different" surface/grip feel -- it is actually quite nice (read "sensual" ) in satin finish.
For the heat problem, try a WOOL sock over the knob with a baseball cap to cover both; works quite well in our very hot Georgia coastal climate.

Don't know if the Ti Voodoos are still available. I searched Voodoo stuff and drew a blank. BTW, even Ti will scratch, although not near as easily as aluminum; don't know how scratch-resistant S-S may be.

Concerning those Skunk2 knobs, a number of owners of new Civic Si's seem to like them a lot: 8thCivic.com.
I will probably try one to see how it compares to the Voodoo -- gotta' find out if all the + hype is for real!

NOTE: For those who asked about custom shifter boots/covers, try here:

http://www.augerresources.com/ ...

to see if they have or will make one for the TSX.

what i'd like to see is the 07 tl-s knob on the tsx (although another thread has mentioned that it might not work).
