Single 60mm pipe which separates into dual 50mm piping. 100mm tips.
Full SUS304 Stainless Steel design, with dual muffler, high flow oval canister construction. Reinforcement plates are located on muffler and y-pipe for additional support.

sauceman, they dyno each system they come out with under/during developement process and of course the decibel testing. That's why I love this company, especially their cars... particularly from Signal Auto.

 

please include any dyno runs for this exhaust...

I dont understand why people want dyno's on exhausts. Has there ever been an exhaust that added more then 8-12 hp? Whats the point?

That thing is hella-light and it has that sweet tip.

 

But how will people know without the dyno? How do we know if one design (dual or single pipe) is better than the other without some comparison? Then again, I do realize most people buy exhaust simply for the sound effects...

 

that's the nicest design for the y-pipe i've seen for our cars.

 

The only reason I got a catback (Fujitsubo) is because I took out my OE cat. If you don't do something about the craptacular uber-restrictive OE cat then there's absolutely no sense in upgrading the exhaust from a performance standpoint.

 

Do did you dyno with and without the Cat? Do you really think you gained anything from taking it off?

 

I have yet to dyno it, but hopefully sometime in May.

 

i'd rather know if an exhuast will add 8-12hp instead of say 2-4hp. That would definately affect my decision to purchase it or not. Especially for cars like the TSX that need as much help as they can get. If i owned a Viper on the other hand I would probably care less if the exhaust gains were not that great because I would already have HP to spare.

 

Good thing I wouldn't really get one for performance gains, but more for sound and looks.

 

But will you still get the exhaust if the dyno indicates a reduction of power but it sounds damn good?

But seriously, I would obviously make sure that the exhaust flow was consistent from front to back so that there would be no flow restriction or abnormality. But if I really wanted more performance from my exhaust I would just go with a straight pipe and screw the resonators and muffler.

 

The engineer in me screams for a custom exhaust like that but at the same time the angel on my other shoulder warns about a ridiculous noise level that attracts attention.

Something tells me a custom straight single-pipe exhaust that would get the most out of the TSX's engine would only cost like $300-400 or so. The Fuji is straight through to the mufflers but the mufflers themselves are baffled (although each one only handles ~50% of the gas flow).

Speaking of which, maybe Tanabe here could dig us up a dyno and maybe a sound/video clip of this exhaust.

 

A straight pipe all the way from the header to the back would probably cost less than $300-$400. I think you would be able to go to a muffler shop and have them mock up a straight pipe for you for like $100.

The Fuji mufflers are what? (chambered, straight thru, or twin loop)

I know that the Greddy Evo2 is straight thru but with the bigger muffler, it creates a deeper tone though louder than chambered mufflers.

They're chambered. If you look in the pipe you can see the front of the can wall, and there are perforations in the side of the pipe going into the muffler chamber to let the gas flow through.

The restriction isn't much but it's not straight through. That's why I liked the Evo2, but it was just too loud for my tastes.

Somebody should get a version of each catback and connect it to an air compressor, then measure flows and pressures. That would be better than a dyno comparison, and much more reliable too.

 

The SM Hyper mufflers are straight through designs, which can be suitable for higher flow capacity if the vehicle is being significantly modified.

We are obtaining the dyno numbers from our engineering department to give a better idea of power gains that can be acheived when changing out the catback section of the exhaust.

Please remember, since dyno numbers vary between dynamometer machines, temperature, humidity, and numerous other factors, any figures should be used for reference only.

Also of note when building your exhaust system, the majority of hp gains are improvements in flow on the pieces that it replaces. If the factory exhaust system has restrictions closer to the engine (ie: headers, catalyzer) then the potential for performance is limited by those aforementioned pieces. The SM Hyper is a bolt on catback system that replaces the exhaust system up to (but not eliminating) the catalytic converter.

We do not currently have any sound clips, but please look forward to them in the future!

the sm piping looks great. i had a tanabe g power medallion on my old civic and it was great - no problems and the finish and quality lasted the 5 years i had it on my car.

A lot of people still ask us about the G power, even though it has been discontinued for some time! We do have new exhausts in development, but there are no tentative plans for Ultra on the TSX.

Due to the price involved with properly constructing parts out of higher grade titanium, a reliable dual titanium system would be extremely expensive (1500+)

 

so if i was interested in a one-off (just for me) ultra medallion exhuast, you wouldn't build one?

why cant you use the existing pipe design from the SM Hyper and put on the ultra medallion canisters?

1500 is a lil steep, i was actually goin to email tanabe USA soon and ask if a custom application could be made.

i'm very interested in this exhuast, and would very quickly dump the comptech exhuast in favor of a titanium ultra medallion.
