Stiffer motor mounts?

Does anyone know if there are motor mount upgrades available to us?

With all of this talk of ETDs, I'm surprised no one has mentioned adding stiffer motor mounts yet. I see alot of motor mounts for K24 engine swaps into other cars, but nothing as an upgrade for our OEM mounts .

You can probably make your own with the right material.

wouldnt stiffer motor mounts make our car less "comfortable"?

The stiffer your mounts are, the more vibration the car will have. Making is less comfortable.

This is the option I used on my Civic a couple years ago. Night and day difference! The car drove 10x better after doing this. Better throttle response, almost eliminated wheel hop on harder launches, and just an overall tighter/less sloppy feeling while driving. However, the cabin vibration did increase substantially. Since it's not my DD/is pretty much a cage w/ 4 wheels and a motor, I could care less. But as far as doing this on a pseudo-luxury car like the TSX.....ehhh...might be too uncomfortable.

I'd be careful doing this mod...it can really make the car annoying at times. The ETD is a viable alternative and easily reversed!

DAYTA's supercharged though, Marcus. None of the ETDs we know of so far are an option for a supercharged setup due to space issues. That's why he has to look elsewhere for engine stability improvements.

A few months back I pinged Innovative Mounts on making some for the TSX. They offered if I provided them mine. I suggested getting a set from the junkyard, and even offered to assist...but I never heard back.

ETD gives some vibration into the cabin. Poly mounts may be the way to go.

Poly mounts can give out much more vibration (depending on the number of mounts and location) than a correctly installed ETD.

Maybe. I definitely noticed vibration w/ the ETD.

What do the RSX guys have to say about poly mounts?

Do you want to make them for me ?

After all, those ETDs you made were very impressive (served as the basis for the Ingalls ETD)...

^^^ Exactly.

For us S/C guys, there are no real ETD options. CCC started a thread asking about that S/Ced Mugen kid's ETD, but given the owner's douchey track record, it's functionality is questionable.

Instead of dealing with the clearance issues of an ETD, I figured I see if anyone knew of an alternative. I understand cabin vibrations would increase significantly, but I'd still be curious to try it out. Really, I just want to eliminate wheel hop as best I can.

Where is Innovative Mounts located? Are they a reputable company? How long did they want your car for?

Damn, I thought they'd be closer (since you're in CT as well). No chance I'm willing to ship my car out to CA...

I was at Excelerate Performance yesterday (had to replace belt and cat), and he actually had several Innovative motor mounts laying around. He also said he might be able to assist in getting them to build some TSX specific mounts. Josh, care to chime in?

I'm in for Innovative Mounts for the TSX. Josh, hook it up! If we get these made, it's just more goodies I'll be buying from you when I supercharge the car next year... haha.

Stiffer mounts will mean greater vibrations in the car. Instead, consider the engine damper (Spoon to J's racing) options and you could vary the damping effect.

Initially, the vibrations are strong but if you set minimum i.e soft dampening, much less vibration (some slight vibrations still) but the launch and VTEC cut over seems more rigid..... If you don't like it, at least u can still remove the engine damper as compared to harder engine mounts.

Last alternative, only change the rear 2 engine mounts to be stiffer, as this will reduce vibrations and helps with launching sprints. Just a compromise and there is no avoidance for vibrations...

I'd LOVE to have stiffer engine mounts. Function > Comfort

If there is enough demand, I can make cnc'd billet engine mounts, as I have plenty of equipment and the experience necessary (was the head of sales for Hasport for over 7 years, and own my own machine shop and dyno tuning shop)..

Hmmm...very interesting.

How many people would you need to commit in order to have a batch made?

Which mounts specifically would you guys be interested in? I was thinking about doing the rear one first, as it will also help me fit my turbo setup.. I was considering front as well, and then see how things are after that..

Ideas?

The front mount is electronically controlled via a solenoid to route a vacuum source to the mount. My guess is the mount will firm up under acceleration and remains "soft" during idle, which is not a bad idea. However, it's not that effective in controlling engine movement.

More info from the press kit... It may help in designing a new set of mounts.

Yeah I would definitely be in for a set of engine mounts or a custom ETD design for supercharged cars. The engine surge is ridiculous now and I loved the ETD on my car in that I had from JTso. It was great and wish I could still have it installed. I am going to try and make a card board template of how an ETD would have to be made around the super charger and see if it is thought to be a possible stable solution. Also it will be hard for AT Supercharged cars as they have the auto tensioner for the belt which is even more in the way.

Be careful with these guys...nothing will transmit more power to the ground and have a nasty side effect of making your car miserable to daily drive than stiff engine mounts.

Im not saying this is the best solution we just need to find a way to remove the minimize the engine movement with the added supercharger or I am going to get rid of it and go another direction so I can put my ETD back on. Most likely if that happens it will be ITBs with upgraded cams and camshafts while trying to reach the same power output I would have with the supercharger and high boost pulley.

well the TL guys are using innovative mounts from the some car or not sure if someone got them to make a set for the TL even. Either way there are more people with modded TSX's than TL's so we have to be able to get them to make some for us.

anyway to request specific stiffness? for example:

25% stiffer than OEM
100% stiffer than OEM
etc.

i'm down for marginally stiffer mounts

yes they have 60A, 75A, 85A, and 95A I believe. I know they have at least 60A, 75A, and 85A. most guys on the TL thread are using 60 but some got 75. 60A doesnt seem to give to much vibration but dont know what percentage stiffer it is.

Just called up Innovative Mounts, and they're willing to create a kit for the TSX .

They need someone to loan them their TSX for about a week to test fit the mounts, but they'll also give them the mounts for free when the final product is complete. They're based in Orange County, so any of you Cali dudes want to be the guinea pig???

Based on the price of the TL mounts, I'm guessing a full TSX kit will run ~$350.00.

if we can't get someone to loan them their car then anyone want to pitch in and buy a set and send them to them.

i just bought a brand new set of mounts (front and rear) for mine as they were getting real sloppy and my ingalls etd wasn't doing much but still see it as money wasted as it hasn't made a huge difference...i would seriously be interested in a set of these...have my old mounts kicking about that i would gladly donate to the cause if that helps???

Get some 80A durometer polyurethane in a tube (use a caulk gun) and fill in those stock engine mounts. Ghetto? Kinda. Works? Yes.

Yo, heal-toe, remember me? Dean from Pro-Motion... or used to work at pro-motion.... quite some time ago.
