Single Side Exhaust
Single Side Exhaust
I took some shots at Mid-Ohio Grand Am that show it is possible to do a single-side exhaust for some performance. Both Kensai and Stewart teams are using it in their race platform.

Single exhaust is the way to go. Duals make no sense on engines without two cylinder banks, and only then when they are completely independent all the way back. If I could figure out how to do it without leaving a big hole where one of the tailpipes comes out, I'd have done it already.
Ins't there someone on this forum that has a European Accord with the single exhaust model......i think it was red......had the rear factory lip with the left sied exhaust opening closed off.......anyways....sweet cars......good pics......One day I will have the 5zigen exhaust

There's actually 3 single exhausts out..... that i know of... Spoon has one, 5 Zigen has one and J's Racing just came out with one!! Great sounding one too!!
BUt, i felt it's weird that the rear has an empty hole, unless Honda Japan has something to close it off.....hahha!
and, what's the difference between single vs. double?? Is it single has more high rpm power and double has more torque at low rpm?

A single exhaust system doesn't use a Y pipe near the rear axle like most TSX catbacks have. There is less turbulence, and the exhaust system can be free-flowing throughout. This is ideal with a four cylinder engine.
Dual exhausts are beneficial on engines with two cylinder banks. For example, with a true dual exhaust on a 350cid V8, two entirely seperate, complete exhaust tracts treat the V8 like a pair of 175cid I4s. It is much easier to pipe it for maximum flow this way, and to match it to the engine's own flow characteristics.
Y pipes, be them splitting or combining, cause backpressure.

Spoon has a single exhaust setup?? I thought they only had N1 muffler kit? Do you have a link for the single, sounds rather tempting.

yea i remember that red accord in belgium...
i'd go single exhaust if i could get that "hole cover".
i wonder if one of the traders on this forum (like mr. heeltoe) could source the part from honda. That'd be very cool
