rt cat = noise

Hey everyone...

this site has me hooked and ive been spending too much time here doing searches for everything...lots of info to peruse through...

see, my goal is to have more power while keeping my car looking/sounding stock...i've got the injen cai but when cruising its not noticeable so its fine...

next on my list is a hondata which i plan on doing probably around sept...soon after i'm going for the dc sports header....

my plan was to stop there...but all the posts on here talk about the bottleneck with the stock cat and that its necessary to mod that as well...

my question is, is the cat theory founded...if so, is it exageratted....if not, and its a must-have, whats the noise level on it...

i know that many of you like the noise and that all fine and dandy with me, but its important for me to keep this as low key as possible...(i dont want to attract the wrong kind of attention if you know what i mean)

final question...i see that dc sports has a 3rd version of their headers out...anyone have experience with these...and if so, is the hissing sound still a problem?

THANKS TO ALL OF YOU FOR THE ADVICE...

0rpm - 2500rpm --> JUST CAI = CAI + Highflow CAT + Header. Actually, it sounds better. If you listen carefully, your low rpm seems to struggle a bit to the loss of torque w/ CAI. If the combo, it smooth the output and your car no longer struggle in that range, so it's all good.

2500rpm - 5500rpm --> With just CAI, it still wasn't that loud in this range, it makes a whinning noise kind of. With C+HF C+H, the tone is alot deeper, yet the whinning noise seems cover by the new noise. It's subtle, and I think it sounds good on my car.

5500rpm - 7300rpm/7600rpm --> It's getting alot noticable louder, even cars from far or your whole hood will reflect the noise. Nothing rice, but it's loud (but should be acceptable except adding a cat-back exhaust)

To answer your question.
Yes, the RT cat will have less restriction that stock cat, therefore the exhaust gas is more freely to flow. It will be louder none the less.

If you don't want it loud, why spend money on mods that add 1-2 hp? Header, intake, exhaust....not a lot of power for the amount of "noise".....

Hondata is perfect in that way. Stock sound.

I wanted to keep my TSX sounding stock like, so I got the Hondata reflash, Comptech Ice Box and stuck with the stock header, cat and exhaust. My car is a bit louder than stock, but I like to hear a little rumble. I want an exhaust, but it is hard to drop the cash for the Mugen (the softest sound)...plus, it is almost all asthetics.

thanks....i wasn't planning on cat but everyone states that the header is practically a worthless mod without a high flow cat....the injen noise is just right for me...loud only when i want it to be....not rice at all...

i only want the header because it compliments the hondata reflash.

header and RT cat is not going to make your car unbearably loud or rice. The stock exhaust will keep it quiet. Yes you will notice some more noise but nothing annoying. I hate DC though, so I have my fingers crossed that Comptech will fix the flex pipe issue on the 06 header

There is a flex pipe issue on the Comptech Header?

I you've got a CAI, don't worry about header and RT cat increasing noise. The increase is very minor (almost unnoticeable). But they will add quite some power together (guessing 10-15 hp)

Always a pleasure getting someone on the modding road =). Yep I have the RT cat, one of my favorite mods thus far because it and the pulley's made the biggest difference on the butt dyno.

I've done some locally and the sound didn't increase that much. Of course, as others mentioned, more flow equals more noise, but nothing substantial or annoying.

i have CAI/CT headers/RT cat..

the sound is not rice or too loud at all.

It sounds good IMO.. nice subtle growl when you get on the pedal and when you smash it ROARS I love the sound..

im looking to get hondata reflash soon, so if anyone in the LA area wants to get together and get it flashed maybe we can get a deal goin?

Your HP guess is a bit high.....I'd guess you'd be lucky to get 3-4 hp out of the combo.
