Removed lower grill insert to help CAI...

Decided to take off the lower driver side small grill insert where the foglights would go to get some extra air to the CAI. Nice quick mod to play with on a dry day. I guess you can say its kinda like a hood scoop.

You just removed it? Did you replace it with something else, like a screen?

Prolly works really well, but I can't stand the look. Shaving off the back of the insert is what I did.

The cut-out fog light cover looks good. I may do that.

What tool(s) required? Dremel w/ cut-off wheel? Or hacksaw? What did you use?

I considered doing this before but the thought of having the opening makes me weary. Cleaning/re-oiling the filter is a PITA to me and I assume that cleaning is necessary more often with this done. Any feedback JTso?

I have the K&N drycharger on the filter and no cleaning required yet. It's easy enough to remove the filter through the wheel liner if necessary. It should not take more than 5 minutes.

rain wont affect your CAI filter, so no, you don't need to swap it

are you being sarcastic? i thought that getting water on it was a big no no. is it only if water is actually sucked up the intake tube and into the engine that you run into trouble? how much water is needed to cause a mechanical malfunction? and while i am at it how are babies made?

You have to fully submerge the filter to ingest enough water to hydrolock your engine.

Various companies sell water shield...Injen for example.

I didn't use any dremel tool, just one of those big xacto knives and sliced it. I only needed to shave off about 2-3mm.

Doesn't the drycharger negate the effect of having the opening? I may still do this and just suck it up more often to do the cleaning. It's not the actual removal/cleaning that's a pain it's the time waiting for the filter to dry that becomes a nuisance. I guess I could just buy a second filter and rotate them for time's sake.

Remove them? I need them when the weather isn't friendly. Does the CAI still perform as good without the vents?

I installed my Injen CAI a few days ago and tried it out... sounds nice, not sure if the gains are too noticable. I cut the slots out on the insert last night, so I'll try it out again to see if there's a difference...

my car with inserts removed. those fog light covers are ugly - been thinking of getting the plastic foglight surrounds minus the foglights to put in their place
