Remove mods before trade-in?
Remove mods before trade-in?
I'm planning to trade-in my Black 04 TSX for a White 06 TSX. I currently have the following parts on it:
Comptech Intake
Comptech Rear Sway Bar
Comptech Springs
Comptech/SPC Camber Kit
I was informed that a car with mods such as mine would get a lower trade value. Is this true? The cost to remove these part and reinstall stock parts back in would be $450 + alignment. Is it worth to spend $500 to put my car back into stock form before trading it in?
Let me know.
Thanks!

You always get screwed with a trade in. Do a private sale. Spend the $50 to advertise in your local paper. It almost always pays off. When buying my 05 TSX, the dealer offered me $1500 on my 98 Explorer. I sold it myself for $3000 (cash). Only took me 3 days and a $50 advertisement.
Well, they are Comptech parts so I would be surprised if they did screw your resale. Did you have them installed by an Acura dealer? Because Comptech parts installed by an Acura deal should be covered under warrenty, hence I can see no reason to reduce the resale value. I would understand if they are other aftermarkets... but not comptech parts
I sold my 89 BMW with 187K miles for exactly what Blue Book's value was at the time and within 2 weeks.
I was actually waiting longer to get my TSX in 2003 than it took me to sell the BMW.

One thing that's always been brought up by the sales manager is the difference in the tax that you pay with and without a trade-in. Let's just say the car is $32K (Navi with A-spec).
Tax for $32K would be around $2240
Tax for $32K less trade-in (32000-23000)*.07 would be $630
So I'm actually ahead with a trade-in? What do you guys think?

If I were to keep any, I would think it will be icebox and the rear sway bar. Those 2 were not that expensive ($170 and $119).
Hmm... Maybe it is worth my $500 to put everything back in stock form.
Well, if you take everything off, you can recoup some of your money by selling the parts to members here.
And btw, you won't need the camber kit for the A-Spec drop since the drop is very very mild.

is sell it yourself. We recently sold a Volvo rather than trade, initially I was sketched about it but we ended up selling it within 3 wks and for about $2,500 more than trade. I'm guessing the $500 you spend will, at best, be a push vs. trade-in value because they'll pork you either way. If it isn't the mods it will be something else.
My opinion, too, is that a TSX in good condition will fly out of your driveway as a sell-by-owner.

He didn't install the stuff himself so I think his issue is having to pay someone to take the stuff out and return the car to stock! Otherwise it's a no brainer to keep the extras. If you have to pay someone to take the stuff off, you might as well just put that money in to brand new stuff. my

I will soon find out if that would still be the case.

They must give you even the slightest knock on the trade-in; or they just jack the price tag on it when they turn it around to sell on their lot... they are in it to make $ You must leave them reasonable room to make some $ on the trade-in as well as your new '06

When I traded my TSX in, I left the neuspeed springs, the header, and the rear sway on. I didn't have time to take the stuff off. The dealership never said a word about it. I don't know if they knew or not. I had 62,000 miles on the car (2004)and they gave me payoff, which was about 20,000. The car is on their website for over 24,000.
