My first mod - Icebox install

Hey all, finally did a real mod. Thanks to everyone's posts here, the installation was a snap. Had the right tools and only took an hour. One question: The instructions show the snorkle fitting further into the bottom of the airbox but I could not get it to fit any tighter than it is. Did I do something wrong? It looks like everything is in the right place.

I love the sound, just what I was looking for.

Does it come with an Air Bypass Valve? And if not, arent you worried about water getting in your engine? I would be. Which is why I dont want to get a cold air intake. However, I do want the Icebox. LoL, so confused.....

No bypass valve, but the general consensus is you'd have to fully submerge your front end to worry about hydrolocking your engine. I think I'll use my Tahoe to drive through streams instead.

I didn't realize that the icebox had the snorkel that went to the bottom. Does that technically make it a CAI?

The original Icebox for TSX just had the snorkel going straight down from the air box. The elbow looks like a revision to the original design.

More like a ram-air than a CAI.

Couple things:

-- The bottom of the stock airbox which is resued is vented. Meaning even if you submerge the snorkel air will be sucked in via the bottom of the stock box. you'd have to submerge your car up to the bottom of the airbox to make hydrolock likely.

-- The iceobx will be pulling in air just as cold as the injen as it's drawing from the same location, so in that regards it is a "cold air intake". The differentiation is that it is not an "open element" intake.

IMHO, the icebox is a more conservative way to go as opposed to the injen/K&N cai or sri, which probably provide greater gains but also come with a greater change to the car's sound. In my situation, I wanted to keep her quiet and the icebox was a nice compromise. Slightly better throttle response, only $150 and keeping the car relatively quiet throughout the rpm range. (maybe a slightly deeper growl on wot than stock)

and of course,
icebox plus hondata = very, very nice gains while closely retaining stock look/sound.

Exactly why I went with the Icebox. Sound is not obnoxious, my butt dyno can feel HP increase at WOT and there is a nice grow. Looking to get Hondatified sometime soon so the icebox (or any CAI) is almost a must.

No sound clips. Sounds just like the clips you can find on this forum.

I went through the fenderwell with the wheel removed. It was a piece of cake. Even the hard to reach bolt wasn't that difficult to remove with the right tool.

What tool as that? I'm installing mine this weekend and would love to avoid the "bitch bolt" scenario if possible.

Also, I'm not trying to be a smartass but my impression of the Icebox is that it's basically a little bigger, smoother airbox and a plastic snorkel that replaces the resonator. Does anyone else think that's not much for $150? I don't want an Injen/K&N/AEM CAI because I don't want loudness, but replacing the resonator with a plastic tube seems like something I can get at a hardware store and just grind down the lattice in the existing airbox with a rasp and some sandpaper. Thoughts?

We've been getting a lot of rain here in Florida. I went through a few puddles that must have been at least 6 inches deep. I have an Injen CAI and had no problems with hydrolocking. I was a bit worried though So, I wouldn't worry about it. Your mod looks good.

Thanks a lot, like I said I'll post photos of my setup when (if) I get it together. Got some PVC pipe last night that I think is the right size, plus a K&N filter. At this point it's more of a challenge to make it work than it is the $150 -- I'm an idiot that way!

I read your thread regarding the swaybar, that's a mod I want to do so I just bot it from Acura of Escondido (eBay). That and a reflash (as soon as I figure out how to be without the car for a few days) and I think I'll be done -- it's my daily driver and will be for many years so I don't want to mess with it too much!
