Looking For Test Vehicle
Some of you guys may know of me. I'm a mechanical engineer and started SMS Products about 5-6 years ago. I've been building race headers and exhaust systems for Hondas and Acuras plus some other cars for this period. Many people and race teams use my products with good success.
I'm currently working on some initial designs of the K20 and K24 headers for use in the TSX, Integras and Civics. If any of you are interested and live in the DC area (I'm right off Exit 126 of I95) please contact me.
Also, please realize that the majority of my stuff is no bolt on. I go into why at http://sms-products.com/Intro.html, you can also read about how we build headers here http://sms-products.com/Construction.html
Thanks for you time.

I will be at college for the next couple months and I live in PA. If I can be guarenteed that my car will always be inside at night and whenever now one is around we may be able to work out me to drop my car off for a couple months for you to use.

That's some commitment there.

Here's a custom header I built for a guy in Canada with a 5th gen Prelude H22VTEC. Those engines are rated at 195bhp from the factory and he has stated that on the dyno used for the test below a stock H22 puts down around 140-145whp. This engine has a stock bottom end, Jun cams, TWM ITBs and runs the AEM stand alone system.
This comparison is between my H22 header and a Mugen header.
My header.
Mine vs Mugen
His estimate when he extrapolated the Mugen graph
and this is what he wrote about it,
"At 8000 there's a difference of 16whp(205 vs 189). The gains would be 25whp if I revved to 8300 with Mugen setup. Now if I extend the Mugen curve out to 8700, the difference would be a whopping 35whp (200 vs 165)!! "

However, the donor car will go home with the stock system on the car since I WILL NOT install my systems on street cars. If a street car comes into my shop with a header and no cat, then by law I have to install a cat prior to doing the exhaust.

That would not be a problem to me. I'd just need to find a place to install it before I cross the border. Needless to say, I'd drive down to get it.
But let's see what you do first. Dyno sheets would be appreciated.

My car would be perfect for this, I'm in NOVA, have a bone stock 6MT 05 TSX. However, with no free header I feel this is not worth it. I'm confident SMSP will put out a strong producing header and perhaps when that happens I will buy one. If there was a free header in this I'd be all over it.

Geez. Everyones looking to get something for free now-a-days. Give the guy a break. First of all he has not stated what will be involved with being a test car. Maybe he only needs the car 1 day a week or something. Second of all he's stated that he'd offer a discount to the donor car. What more could you ask for. Not many people I know are going to give away a $1300 header.

Fabricating is not easy and takes time. It's not uncommon to fab up many versions and only one would make it to production. We are not talking about simply piecing some tubes together guys. I think a discount is very reasonable.
Btw, if the Toda header is being made in Japan, which engine are they using to create the header? Is it going to be optimized for our engine?

Update for everyone else: Looks like I will be the test car. I'll be dropping my car off for a couple weekends and I'll be sure to have a dyno pulled after everythings all set. All I have now is a Comptech Icebox for the before dyno will look exactly like that.
I'll keep you guys posted!

I've looked into this before with my Integra, but is there any way this will be CARB legal or exempt? (I pretty much know the answer, but its worth a shot.)
Great product for sure though. Will the muffler be a twin pass system or a straight through muffler? I might be interested in the catback portion if anything.

With a baffle it's usually very reasonnable. But it is always still related to the design of the exhaust. A full-race catback exhaust without a baffle must be LOUD. It would be significantly better with a baffle, but still not as quiet as stock or maybe a Comptech exhaust.
But performance would be at the rendez-vous though. Depends what you're looking for.
