to kit or not to kit?

Hey guys!

I have been searching (yes searching for all of you who will come in here and say "use search please") and looking at all sorts of different kits and i know for sure that i am getting new wheels to start with, but i digress. The main kits i am looking at are the oem and mugen, and heres the tricky part, cha ching cha ching! it adds up really quick when you put it with some new wheels and tires...especially for a high school student, yikes! So, im thinking of just lowering it. Also, this may be a really dumb question, but i think i remember seeing a thread with somebody talking about maybe a knock off mugen kit? is this correct? and if so, is it total crap or is it alright? anndd if that knock off does exist, if somebody with it on their car happens to stumble upon this thread, i would be forever greatfull to see pictures of it! thanks!

Jesus, three threads about the same subject in the same area within 2 days.

You need to learn how to use the search function effectively.

Yes, there is a knockoff Mugen kit.

Quality wise, it depends on who you get it from.

stephen8512 has a knock off Mugen Replica Kit. I found a few threads from that user, however I'm not posting them. You're not gonna learn if you keep having things handed to you. Search this poster's name for his threads, and you'll find his car with a Mugen replica kit. PM him if you want answers about the kit.

knockoffs are gay and cheap. I was in high school and I built a car all with quality parts it just takes longer. work two jobs if you really want to build a good car.

lower first, kit second, wheels third.

i just saw your two other threads with similar subject. use search man for real. search the older threads and you'll find tons of information regarding your concern.

if money is your concern and wants to be different from your classmates, change those acura signs into honda. also get jdm accord euroR grille. approx $3~400 will change your "Acura TSX" into "Honda EuroR"

no but you asked about a knockoff mugen kit which is currently available only on ebay and for less than 600 dollars. now from all the body kits I have ever seen I have yet to see a decent fitting kit for sub 1000.

I heard the knockoff mugen air spoiler from ebay isn't too horrible. I think there was a girl in florida who has it?

IMHO, if you're going to spend so much money just on looks, why not just save up and get the real thing for the bodykit? And also, if you plan on lowering your car, invest in both struts and springs as a combo set or get coilovers. I think the TEIN basics are around $600 and you can install them yourself (it's not hard, I've done it before on a friend's car)

I'd like to see your car as it develops. I'm also 17 and in high school and I want to see what people my age group can do with a tsx exterior-wise (I plan on going performance only).

Wow....this got ugly!! haha...ya, don't mod with fake knock off parts man, be like me!! I got my 05 CG TSX when I was 17, had it 2 years til now and I modded slowly. Go with your own pace man, I worked a bit and invested on the side in order to mod my car too. So far, I got nothing done....well, to me anyways.

What I started was with a set of springs, then a body kit, then to coilovers. Recently just added some engine cosemetics too....

At your age, we don't expect you to have time for two jobs unless you decide to drop out of high school and have two jobs. I've had my car for a year now, and I don't even have much on my car. This shit takes time and patience.

the knock off spoiler would be the only knock off part i would be mildly interested in and thats only if i felt like getting that style spoiler, i think i will get the M3 lip spoiler sometime down the line and for right now im probably just going to go with the TEIN basics and some wheels, thats what i have been looking at, and i have seen the picture of the girl in florida with the knock off spoiler, it looks really good and she said she loves it. I planned on going performance only, but those mods will come later down the line, probably end of senior year-ish, and i will post pics of my car as it progresses for you, i'd love to see yours too!

Sure you can buy them cheaper than original namebrand parts, but (and I say more than likely) be prepared to spend more on prepping (SP?) them for install. Most of the knockoff parts I've seen are flawed in some way and will require more work to install them. It'll likely even out in the end.

If you ask me, nothing complete the car like an OEM kit. You can find them online for under $1k usually (painted). Then all it takes is a weekend with friends installing it. Less actually, more like a day.

I agree with him about taking your time on car. Car isnt your life man. dont fucking work two job to make your car look good! that is the dumbest idea I ever heard. At your age, school is most important thing.

Unless that's what you want to do with your life. People have started companies that way. Look at CJams. He worked a full time job and tinted on the side until he could afford to open his own shop.

haha i know but its basically the only thing i can do because im a very avid golfer and i am working my ass off right now talking with college coaches about playing for them so every day of practice and every hour of practice counts (so i dont have much time for any kind of a job unless it was super flexible about my hours), so i might as well make some cash off of it oh and im not even giving any kind of thought to working two jobs, so dumb, my car for sure is not my life, school and golf are for right now

I'm sure I found them for around $600 before. Excelerate was selling them for $675 a while back, not sure about now. He's a vender here.

As for me, I'm saving up for TEIN flex. I don't think excelerate sells them though. Alas my search continues.

but I still think the college education is important than anything at my age or his age. I do understand where you are coming from what if something goes wrong? whats next? thats what college can do for you, help you and guide to the right career.

While I'll always agree that a college education helps, it all depends on what you do for a living. I went into the Marines right out of HS, and received some good training through the military. I'm certified by Cisco but have no college education under my belt. With my certification and years of experience, I'm making $70k+ a year. No doubt that I'd be able to make a bit more with a BA behind my name too, but it's not always necessary.

I do agree with you. College isnt for everyone and it doesnt mean that people will do well because they went to college but in general college is there to help you so.
