Injen Intake - Low End Power Loss

Question for all of the Injen Intake owners.

Did you noticed a big loss or any loss in the low end power after you installed the Injen in CAI mode?

I have a 5 spd. Auto and I'm just worried that I'll lose too much of the power on the low end.

I dont have the Injen, but from the dyno of the 5AT with the Injen you can see exactly what power loss to expect.

I hope i'm not mistaken. I thought part of the benefit of the CAI is a bonus to the stock low end power. i'm wrong?

thats incorrect. A CAI will help more with mid to top-end power. Low end will suffer because the stock airbox is removed.

From the dyno chart it looks as though you never actually go below the original curve.

I have the Injen and an AT. There definently is a power loss in the low RPM's.

but if you look closer, the blue line actaully starts at a higher level or power. Yes, there is a very slight loss of power at the initial phase of the curve but the red curve rises much higher at mid to high end bringing more total power. If you want a higher low curve and a lower mid - high curve, get a short ram intake. Those are designed for low end gains.

Since the Injen can either be CAI or SRI, you can experiment with both. I have mine in SRI form and have noticed no loss in low end power but the engine does feel much stronger after 4000rpm.

This is correct. It happens because stock airboxes/resonators are designed to resonate at around 2500 RPM. This causes an artificial boosting of intake pressure due to pressure pulses lining up correctly. So a stock box boosts low-end torque somewhat. At high RPMs the lengths are off and it just becomes restrictive (and they count on the high RPMs to make the HP). The CAI will eliminate the low-end resonance, so you lose some low-end torque (and it IS noticable, but not horrible). But your gain on the high-end is well worth it, IMO. Even if it does make you sound ricey...

I don't think a shorter intake will yield higher tq than a CAI. Just look at some of the intake manifold design with dual runners like the AE86 or Prelude, Integra. They use the longer runner during low rpm for low end tq and switches to the shorter runners for high rpm.

I forgot all about that. I'll give it a try this evening but I make no guaratees about what the final product will look like. I think it will be strange.
