Icebox vs stock filter

Hi, I'm new to this forum and just starting to mod my 05 tsx. Thought about icebox - does it allow the engine to intake more debris than stock filter?

Not really. The Icebox filter is a foam filter that is reusable. The stock filter is just a paper filter.

No, why would you think that? The Icebox just comes with a freer flowing reusable filter and eliminates the factory resonator box that is located behind the left side of the front bumper. The possibilty of an increase in road debris is a very low percentile. The performance gains will be worth cleaning the filter a few hundred sooner.

free flowing

The intake is very open on the TSX as well as the exhaust. I think its 2-3hp gain according to comptech if you do a full intake. I put the icebox on my car and Im not sure I felt any gain.

This has been brought up many times. K&N makes CAI for TSX and claims 4.18 HP gain. Someone tested it with other mods like header and achieved 5.5 HP. So, unless u are going to do further modifications (reflash, header, hi-flow cat, pulleys), CAI/icebox wont do THAT much, really. Icebox gives better midrange/low end TQ and power while CAI loses it there compared to the stock filter BUT gains power at high RPMS. I noticed that low/midrange loss with CAI on my old car. Oh and I never heard about any problems with debris. Correct me if I am wrong, please

somone paid about 600+ for 300 dollar intake and 300+ headers to get 5.5 hp? thats insane price per HP @ that rate cheaper to just save up about 20,000 and get an evo

I think he meant that, if you have an aftermarket header, the intake will give you 5.5hp more. Just adding an aftermarket header alone will give you much more than 5.5hp. The combination of a header and intake is probably more in the 15-20hp range.

Thats pretty accurate header alone adds ~15 WHP on a bone stock car.

I've actually haven't read up much at all on Comptech's Icebox, but do you have any worries with it? Hydrolock for instance? I don't know anything about it's setup. I've considered switching to an Icebox from my CAI as I am just really nervous about hydrolock...and I've been told the icebox has a deeper tone. Just a plus there.

...really?

I should research some of these things more. I thought a header may give you 5 at most, but if what you said is the case, I might consider a header sooner.

header ~14-16 HP (depends on other upgrades, of course)
