I installed my icebox this weekend...

...i probably installed the icebox the hardest way possible ;(

i didnt feel like taking off the bumper so i removed the wheel and liner and got 1/2 the resonator out when i realized there is no F***ing way i was getting the bitch bolt out. My arm must be too big. I could get to the bolt but had no room to break it free/move it

So i got out the Dremel and just start to cut at the resonator. I cut the front, and the top off, then finally got enough of the hinge the bitch bolt was attached to inorder to use a crow bar to snap it it took about 30+ min to dremel it out.

After i got that out the rest of the install went smooth.

Once it was all done and i cleaned up the shavings i took the car on a 30min drive. The sound isn't noticeable under 4k, after that it has a slight growl, i wish it was alittle louder its all good...

I feel like the car has more pep, alot less lagged...which is a very nice change. It may have gained a little low end (under 3k), but mainly after 4k.

It was almost impossible to install w/o removing bumper for me. So I removed front bumper finally and after that, it became really easy BTW, If you want to go little bit louder, then I recommand you K&N filter. Mine got little bit louder when I changed the filter to K&N

...cool, i doubt i can justify that upgrade since it already has a reusable filter but ill consider it

i've been readin on the board for a long time.

from my understanding .. KN Filter > filter that came with ice box. ice box uses a foam type filter (unless they changed it recently). but i hear that from long usage .. the foam can deteriorate and flake off which will then be sucked into the motor itself. While the KN filter wouldnt deteriorate that fast due to cleaning and oiling of the filter.

i could be wrong .. if johnny reads this he can clarify,

woah i didnt know that=-o can someone confirm this?
Spoon uses a foam filter...you oil/clean the foam filter as well...

...if this is true how long till it begins to deteriorate?

Yeah, I have no idea how people break that bolt loose without taking the bumper off. I had to take mine off to remove it (a lot easier this way). Of course, I had already spent an hour+ trying to break it loose the hard way. You should hear my fujita, it really growls after 3-4k

You can only take the front bolt off without removing the bumper if you have an 04-05 and no foggies. Otherwise you have to either remove the bumper or peel down the splashguard under the bumper.

Yup. 04 with no fogs here, I just reached in and did it that way. It took me maybe 20 minutes to get that bolt out. Nowhere near as bad as reported, due to my setup.

you must have small arms, b/c i tried that evasive method and i still couldn't reach the bolt.

took off the whole bumper, everything was easy after that.

Removed that little bolt out of my 06 by peeling down the splashguard. I will admit it wasn't the easiest thing to do. Took about 10 mins and ended up with some pretty scratched up hands.

Yeah I don't know how you would get to that top bolt to take off the intake piece connected near the top of the radiator unless you take the bumper off. It was a bitch for me even with the bumper off.

I can't believe that those 8 or so cheap plastic push pins are the only thing holding up the bumper, no solid bolt or screw besides the two side screws. My Si had two solid bolts holding up the bumper in addition to the side screws.

With the size of the resonator, I don't see how anyone takes it out without taking off the bumper.

So Haro, were you able to remove the resonator easy , only removing the splash guard ?
I mean, were you able to remove it (the resonator) without destroying it, cut it or something ?

i got everything out easy. i mean... i had to tug a little bit but it wasnt too bad and i didnt scratch anything or mess anything up
i seriously dont even know how that all came out. even the other tube that goes from the resonator back up to the radiator
i just remember i was feeling to lazy to remove the tire. i lifted the car and i was like eh and just turned the wheel and pulled the splash guard

I also removed the resonator through the splash guard. It's easy once you manage to remove the bolt at the front.

yup, it's actually pretty easy to remove all that stuff. I cheated though as far as an intake. i bought a k&n drop in filter and connected a flexble tube from the bottom of the air box and ran it to the opening where your fog lights would be. I cut open the plastic fog light hole plug thing and zip tied the hose directly behind this so it's like a "Ram air" type deal since the hose is sealed at the air box.
Not to worried about screening or anything since the filter is still there but i'll prob screen it in here shortly.
Car is quite but once you get moving it feels a bit torquier. a little more responsive as well. Not sur but the butt dyno can tell a little diff but nothing big I don't think.

I am assuming you are using the stock Air Box Cover and not Comptech's bc the K&N filter doesn't fit the Comptech cover which sucks, just stock. I found this out when I switched out filters for the K&N, it did sound a lot louder but that was because there wasn't a tight seal at the air box.

Just add some rubber strips to the comptech lid so that it presses down and seals against the K&N filter.

That's pretty sweet, I thought about doing that but didn't know what to use, now I do and will give it a try. So I put the stock Air box cover on with the K&N and the comptech CAI bottom tube and it felt like it rev'd slower, weird but true. Then I switched back to the Ice Box top and filter and I felt like my baby was a little quicker up to Vtec.

I just ordered a Injen CAI to try that out but I have been happy with the Ice Box, I just feel like I can get more from a std CAI. Maybe I am just biased since I have had a number of AEM's and Injen CAI's.

Okay so, which is better for a rainy climate: Icebox or regular CAI? Are both the same? ive had a friend with a fujita cai, and he hydrolocked a little while back..

^^ the Icebox retains the lower half of the stock airbox which has airholes so it is more difficult to hydrolock.

Don't drive through deep puddles, or run your CAI in short ram mode during the rainy season.

Hm, didn't think you could hydrolock in short ram mode

That's what I meant. If he wants to avoid hydrolocking then he should run it in short ram mode. Maybe I wasn't clear.

^ i think he just read it differently

dont do this or that ( both negative )

dont do this, or do that ( separate statements )

icebox would naturally seem to be a safer bet.

The bumper takes 5 mins to take off. Not even worth the effort involved to leave the bumper on.

Injen and FUJITA will make the most peak hp but Icebox I believe gives more low end grunt. I'm trying to remember the dyno graphs but I'm pretty sure the statement above is accurate. AEM is an SRI so don't bother.
