hondata application? k24

So what's the deal? I was reading on the hondata forums and they said they aren't considering anything as of right now.

5/14/03 Hondata response:

"Not this year - we'll re-evaluate the TSX next year."

I read Hondata doesn't want to do anything with the TSX or new Accord becuase unlike the K20 (Civic-RSX). The Accord family uses MAF sensors, and this is not Hondata freindly.

I'm not an expert on MAF vs speed/density vs afm etc etc but should it really make much of a difference? It all boils down to one signal to the ECU regarding how much airflow there is. Maybe someone could point out the technical differences that make it not favorable.

In my initial conversations with doug he didn't mention anything other than it's going ot take some time to crack the TSX ecu and with the limited numbers on the road he thought it financially best to wait a bit. Who knows what is going to happen but if anyone has some insight i'd love to hear it.

If Hondata would work, i'd imagine its gains would be really good, better than the K20's.

I'll let anyone know about any info that comes out regarding Hondata for the TSX. A friend of mine and I are distributors for them. If anyone wants an emil from me when I get more info, feel free to email me at kurt_bradley@hotmail.com and I'll add you to the list of people that want more info on it as it comes. I don't know anything solid right now either. I'm not really that concerned about it though. From the success that they've had with the K20 application, there should be something for the K24.

Sorry if this seems like I'm whoring myself out too much.

No problem Kurt. Thanks for doing something that Hondata ought to be doing for itself.

This is absolutely incorrect. There are no Honda's that I know of that use MAF (except for maybe the Passport that that thing is really an Isuzu). I just took a peek under the hood of my TSX and indeed it uses a MAP sensor. It's mounts directly onto the intake manifold somewhat near the tbody.

I'm not an expert on MAF vs speed/density vs afm etc etc but should it really make much of a difference? It all boils down to one signal to the ECU regarding how much airflow there is. Maybe someone could point out the technical differences that make it not favorable.
I'm not an "expert" either on this matter but I can explain to a certain extent, the difference; whichi is pretty self explanatory. Speed density systems are obviously less restrictive. Plain and simple, there's no flap door or "hot wire" in the way of the air flow. With MAF's, there are a couple different type. The flapper door types are a thing of the past. They were way too restrictive and their response to air flow lagged. The new/more modern type that is used mostly today is the "hot wire" type. The amount of air being ingested is measure by how quickly the incoming air cools off the "hot wire". You are correct in that with either system, a signal is sent to the ECU that represents air flow.

After all this, I still can't see why Hondata would not to do anything for it right now. Perhaps the R&D time needed would not be profitable to them at the moment as there are only 15,000 TSX's allocated to the U.S. for the first year. Hence the reason why they probably want to wait and re-evaluate the TSX next year.

Just my $.02.

We'll see. I'm going to hold my breath though. If they did it so easily for the RSX after elss than a year of the car being out over here, they should get the TSX one moving. R&D doesn't have any other cars that they need to be working on.
