The looks have effectively deceived you.
Foam filter have always been know to flow a lot of air. These intakes do make power!
However, they do not clean the air as well as a cotton one. Additionally, there is no cold air option.
For a short ram, this is a good intake to consider. They work well and are inexpensive. Replacement foams are not expensive either.

I own and drive a '95 Supra turbo on nice days when my TSX needs a rest and if you hunt around for rare truth
in the Supra community, you might find that these filters are all a bit overrated ...at least for Supras. I'm sure it depends on how restrictive the OEM setup is, not just the filter element but the entire intake airbox. Here's a little link, if you click on the various types, you get some results about how effectively they filter dirt, and even though it's Japanese language, I think most of the conclusions are understandable http://www.mkiv.com/techarticles/fil...t/1/index.htmlI run a stock airbox on my Supra (still stock turbos, but dyno'd 435rwhp/455rwtq so it's not a slouch by normal car standards) with a TRD filter element, which is about as good as the K&N but more expensive; the K&N wasn't out yet when I bought mine quite a few years ago.
From what I've seen around here with CAI on the TSX, apparently it stands to gain more than some other cars.

It seems that HKS doesn't filter anything

Just absorbs the air....
I wish I can understand the comments....
I wouldn't get the HKS filter. I had one on my Z. It simply doesn't filter. I took it offer after a few weeks and there was dust accumulated on the INSIDE of the filter. I'm sure it flows better but so does a velocity stack. It filters just about as poorly too.
