Help on SS install!!
I am on the step where I need to remove the shift cable clip and that thing won't come off. The comptech directions aren't realy specific. Any help will do.
The metal clip that holds the middle cable-it needs to be pried from the bottom.
The plastic retainer clip that holds the cable on the right side-it needs to be rotated 90 degrees and then will lift right out.

I found the metal clip a pain too.
for me the best way to get it off was to get a long flat bladed screwdriver and to prise the bugger off. Start on one side and then work on the other once you have the thing lifted a bit.
If you think that's tough though wait until you need to get the thing back on

I got it on, finally. I went about Neuspeeds way and took a 13mm wrench to that little white POS. I kept on jacking up on it until it popped right off. After that the install took 10 minutes, and I pieced together my center console in a fraction of the time it took me to rip it apart.
It's nice, feels like driving my friends ITR and worth the $46. The metal bushings however... I am skeptical on any improvements they made. I honestly think they make a minimal difference. To test this I first installed metal bushings on my stock shifter and drove around a day with them on and really didn't notice a huge difference in shifter stiffness.

I did both the bushings and the s/s at the same time-the overall improvement was great, although I didn't know if the bushings themselves helped or not. I was wondering if the carpet needed to be trimmed underneath the shifter assembly; even though I've got the solid bushings, the carpet would still have some "give" to it........

One solution to the problem might be to cut the carpet away and then to bond a thin layer of hard rubber under the bushings. This would be less compliant than the carpet and would also reduce vibration though the gear lever housing.

Yeah, I don't feel like the bushings do much. I've actually got some sporadic vibration in 2nd and 5th above about 3.5K RPM that I don't think were there before. Everything seems to be properly attached and aligned so I'm not sure what's wrong. Maybe the metal bushing is transmitting more vibration than the rubber did or maybe I messed something up, but I don't think I did. Maybe I'll remove them and see if it's still there.
