I'm guessing the ECU's are different as Hondata has only been ably to crack the 2004's but not the 2005's.

The immobilizer, ECU, and (transponder chip inside the key) have to match for it to work.

I am an owner of the 05 TSX 5AT, and I purchased an 04 ECU, Immobilizer, and Key all from the same wrecked 04 5AT TSX. I got it reflashed and it works perfectly.

Obviously, the key from the 04 TSX doesn't fit my car, but thanks to Moda_way, I did the honda accord keyfob in which the transponder chip inside the 04 key was utilized along with a cut copy of my 05 key.

I just swapped everything out and it works with no problems.

I'm still extremely curious what differs between '04 and '05 MY though, especially since the '04 ECU seems to work well for you. Perhaps functionality is identical but Honda just changed their architecture on us, e.g. the ECU behaves the same way but its internal programming is completely different?
