CT short shifter install...

I tryed searching for some install advice on the short shifter, but nothing came up at all. I was wondering if anyone could maybe direct me to a previous thread or could tell me what exactly i have to do. I just ordered it today and I wanna know what im doing when it comes in. How exactly do i take off the cover around shifter?

I'm pretty sure all the CT E stuff comes with picture instructions.
I have their icebox and it came with good step by step picture instructions.

do you have a service manual? that will also show step by step and give pictures.

not sure I've seen a DIY here for one.

it's pretty easy.

Follow the steps that CT provides, just when you popping up the center panel trim (whats around the shifter, cup holders etc...) warm up the clip points with a hair dryer. This makes the plastic more supple and less prone to cracking.

Also, when you disassemble the whole thing there is a little white ball looking thing on the bottom of the shifter that you have to remove and put on the CT adapter. Again heat it up with a hair dryer to pop it off with the tool CT provided, then rub some vasilene on the bottom end of the CT adapter and heat up the lil white ball again and pop it back on.

It's pretty easy I was able to do mine in under an hour.

My advice for removing the center console (plastic panel that goes around the shifter and e-brake): get a long-handled set of pliers, and a t-shirt. Wrap one half of the plier grips in t-shirt (to prevent scratching any interior panels), insert the handle in the e-brake hole, and pry upwards. This will help you pop up the first clip or two. From there you can do the rest by hand.

I spent about an hour trying to pull this panel up before I thought to try this. clee109's suggestion of heat is also a great one; I wish I'd known that years ago...

I like it and found it to have a noticeable difference especially throws to 1st, 3rd, and 5th gears. I would recommend a heavy shift knob like Skunk2 to make ti smoother.

yes you have to take the knob off. you also have to take the lock nut off. then the shift boot will slide right off with the rest of the center console piece.

The armrest can stay. There are 4 screws holding that big whitish plastic thing down and they all face up. The cable needs to come off too.

Note I haven't done this myself but I've been in that area plenty and I've seen enough write ups to understand it.

Actually the armrest does have to come out, because it's connected to the rest of the center console. I challenge anyone to poke around and make the necessary movements to get the CT short shifter extension on the bottom of the stock unit without taking that console out.

agreed, close to impossible to do with the armrest in and to the question of throw distance I believe CT states a 38% reduction in throw

I stand corrected. Like I said, I've not done it myself but I've poked around in there a bunch of times while pulling wires. Is the problem the lack of slack in the cables? It looks like it should be pretty easy to get the whole shifter mechanism out from the top.

The clips on holding the cables on are a PITA. I found the Neuspeed instructions to be much better.

Agreed

I have the CT short shifter with the solid base bushings and solid tranny bushings. Shifting is very precise now
