Cold air intake

i have a 2007 silver tsx, i was looking at getting the k&n cold air intake for it but i have stock everything else like exhaust etc. just asking would it be beneficial to buy it if i dont plan on getting an exhaust for a while? how would it effect gas mpg? power gain?

It will definitely help, and the exhaust is the last thing I would replace unless you specifically want a different look/sound (performance gains are minimal; very low bang for the buck).

An air intake will give you better performance and mileage, but it's going to be marginal. It will really be a butt dyno and throttle response. If you like hearing the sound of the intake, you may cancel out any of those fuel economy gains.

An exhaust in the TSX will kill some of the low end torque for top end power. Personally I think Honda 4's in general lack torque for a higher redline so I like to keep as much as possible.

The intake is going to give you more power than the exhaust. I'd highly recommend the K&N or INJEN intake for the TSX. Gas mileage will increase while cruising but will suffer when the vehicle is WOT.

Check out our website for pricing too if you need a quote. Let me know if you have any questions.

You won't experiance a huge gain in power, I only noticed a slight increase in acceleration. While the intake won't make you break any speed barriers, it definately makes your engine bay look more attractive.

I agree with Green_Henry, the exhaust should be last, very expensive and not a lot of power will be gained. You should definately go with the intake its cheapest, I would also recommend a pair of headers for your next upgrade. DC and Comptech both make some good ones, and the prices is must less than an exhaust.

A pair of headers? If you have an extra cylinder bank, please post some pics

I like my Injen CAI very much. It adds a little efficiency, it helps the engine 'rev' more easily, and it sounds nice. I got mine off ebay because of a nice deal.

For comptech intake+header...

At about 1000 miles the first dyno (blue) gave us184 hp and 165 ft/lbs of torque. At about 3000 miles when we switched to synthetic oil, we added a Comptech header and Icebox and redynoed (the Pink line). Peak power grew by 20hp This is more than is usually seen with a header and intake. We suspect the additional running in time and synthetic oil contributed few HP here. The next modification was the TSX-reflash, (Red) dropping the VTEC transition from 6000 rpm to 5000 rpm, increasing the rev limit to 7600 rpm, and advancing the cam and ignition timing. Torque and power in the midrange increased substantially with a gain of 25 hp at 6000 RPM . Currently public opinion has the TSX-Reflash as the best bang for the buck modification for the TSX.

if you guys are really interested, some nice things can be learned from the page i got this from...

Is that for the original K24A2 (2004-2005)? Are the gains the same for the 2006-2008?

thanks,

I have an Injen CAI in mine and I felt the difference. A lot of it could come from sound though

i have an 06 asm with the K&N cold air intake and the difference from stock is that it is alot louder at WOT.i felt more of a difference once i installed dc headers and still had stock exhaust.it was mostly felt during highway driving tho.

I have the injen too. I love the sound and i get better gas mileage. My only problem is that if im in drive or reverse and am stopped or moving slowly it rattles but not at speed or in park in neutral. Has anyone else had this before or is mine just installed incorrectly?

07tsx20, what do you want to get out of your car?

If you're looking for the best intake in terms of practical driving with minimal sound, I'd get the comptech icebox. If you looking for something louder and more fun in the upper revs, i'd get a CAI/SRI, both K&N and injen are good (i have the K&N).

the 04-08 tsx exhaust flow is good so you're going to get very minimal gains from switching it out to another exhaust system.

in terms of mpg, you'll gain a little bit, but the heaviness of your foot on the throttle is the biggest determinant in your mpg.

I have an Injen CAI wit DC sport headers. You will gain power but I really feel that gas went down. Most of all on hills.

Hey, I have a 07 6mt TSX and I have recently put in a 69 typhoon CAI from K&N and I can tell you from experience that it will be a difference but its not insane. It will sound waayy better at high RPM's and the same as it always did at regular driving RPM lvls. MPG will be a little better and I gained about 4HP.. For the price I think you should do it
