Changing brakes?

How hard is it to change the brakes on the TSX? I read in another post that all it takes is removing the bottom bolt from the caliper, then swing it up to remove and install the new pads. Also, do the rotors really need to be resurfaced everytime you change the pads? I heard it's better to do it every other time because you end up wearing them out alot faster, unless you notice vibration when braking. If they do need to be resurfaced every time, how hard is it to remove them? Thanks for any help.

there are about 3 DIY threads on here.

No, you don't always have to replace the rotors. The rotor is either in spec. or out of spec. If it is truly warped, then you might as well just replace them. To date, I've only heard of a few truly warped rotors. Most were particles left behind by the crappy OEM pads (including my old rotors). I've changed my fronts once and replaced the rear pads (not rotors). All is great.

Thanks for your help moda, but I wasn't planning on replacing the rotors. My question was if they had to be resurfaced every time.

If the rotors are not scored, you don't really need to resurface them. Resurfacing could weaken the rotor by thinnng the metal if done too many times (there is a service limit). I did clean my OEM rotors to remove any residue from the previous pads before installing new pads.

What did you clean them with? Just alcohol? This is good info.

Brake cleaner spray would be my guess.

Just give it a spit shine.

I clean the rotor surface on both sides with brake cleaner. Then lightly block sand the surface with fine grit sandpaper. Then clean the rotor surface again prior to the new pad install. Once the pads are installed, follow the manufacture procedures to bed-in the pads.

"follow the manufacture procedures to bed-in the pads"

This is one of the most important parts of this thread!
