Catback Exhaust Systems

I wasn't going to touch a finger on catback systems with increased noise. But since I'm running out of options on the performance mods, I decided to try it for the heck of it.

So far I have Comptech icebox/header, Random cat, and UR pullies. I searched about catback systems available for the tsx and we seems to have bunch of options.

-Comptech
-Fujitsubo
-Tanabe SMH
-Tanabe MT
-Greddy Evo2
-Greddy SP2
-Mugen
-DC
-Buddy Club (Out yet?)

Do you guys have current update on these systems yet? Like best matching combination for power increase, noise level, looks, etc...

As far as exhausts go, the Comptech has the best sound...

I heard a comptech in person like last year. This guy that works at Acura Dealer bought his TSX with full comptech set up and he had Comptech header & exhaust and Injen intake. I thought it was little raspy rather than deep toned.

Its deep when you first start it, but once you get into the higher rpms it sounds ricey to me...

I'm really not a fan of the Greddy EVO2. Sounds like major rice to my ears, loud a bassy at lows, and buzzing through the range. Its annoying and sounds like it was designed for 'sound' performance.

I have not heard any other exhaust in person to give you a better option though. I'm sure some of them aren't as bad.

My vote is for the Mugen. I have not heard it on a TSX, but I had a twin loop on my old 99 Civic SI and it sounded great -- close to stock unless you got on it --- even then it was a subtle change from stock.

That's not even a catback exhaust. It's an axle back which means only the rear muffler.

it'll be nice to have a sound file for each of these exhausts for a comparison.

Stupid question maybe, but in terms of sound what's the difference between replacing the entire cat-back and just replacing the mufflers (assuming the same mufflers either way)? The slightly larger-diameter pipes?

The main difference is pipe diameter, pipe quality (stainless), mandrel bent pipe, and resonator.

Which reminds me, what happens if I remove the exhaust resonator and put in a straight pipe? HP?

Yea I already saw that like last year. Greddy Evo2 just don't compare well with other two I think. Anyone have Tanabe MT and Greddy SP2?

EVO2 definitely deep sound, even better when you have an injen intake , don't think it's too ricey, but great sound to me personally

Well I found it. Tanabe MT seems really quite from this video. I hear more of intake sound than exhaust.

Yeah, the exhaust is relatively quiet. That's a link to my video. The car is going into the shop next Friday. Getting cams, hondata, custom header, & exhaust. We'll see what happens.

It depends on whether you want a single or dual exhaust system.

A single exhaust will give the greatest power gains, but a dual exhaust will be quieter.

There's also the J's Racing, Spoon, Modulo (Japanese Honda option) and HKS silent hi-power cat-back systems -- not to mention the options of selecting whatever muffler(s) you want and getting some custom piping done.

I just ordered the Tanabe MT. I heard some guy installed Tanabe MT on his RSX and complained about his catback system being too quite. Paid $850 shipped. Is this price pretty reasonable?
