CAI filter water, dust, snow protection
I have about 15,000 miles on my injen cold air intake and I decided to clean the filter today. The process was simple and it dried quick with a small fan blowing on it. It really wasn't that dirty. I decided to post pics of my water protection since so many people are concerned with water. I don't have driving/fog lights so I removed the plastic covers and I have black mesh in place. Those of you with the cold air intake knows that the filter is right behind the fog light cover. The filter is designed to repell water.. but I don't think direct contact with rain is good... so I have a K&N drycharger and a splash guard on my filter. The Drycharger repells water spray and large dust particles.. and just stretches over the filter... you can pull it off and rinse it off and it keeps the filter cleaner longer. I tried posting the pic... I couldn't do it.. so here is the link

another pic
Here is a pic without the drycharger so you can see the clearance around the filter. With just mess in place of the fog lights.. much more cold air ( and water spray ) gets to the filter. So with the splash guard facing forward it stops all the direct spray to the filter.

tsx thanks for posting the pic... I couldnt get it to work. can you do the second pic too... thanks
The splash guard is held on with the same clap that holds the filter to the intake pipe. Then you can pull the drycharger over the filter. You can take the drycharger off just by pulling it off without removing the filter. I usually rinse the drycharger off when I change the oil.

The Power of a Grill
hmmm...i had pondered these questions recently, so i just ordered an exact fit prefilter from outerwears - the k&n is a little loose for the injen filter and K&N simply gets thier prefilters (drychargers) from outerwears and puts thier own labels on it (so does Injen, i have been told). The "splash" shield is actually a heat shield for SRI to keep the air cooler, not to block water in full CAI. No need for a heatshield in CAI for me - i like air.
